French rail service SNCF has dropped a partnership with Airbnb following pressure from the hotel industry. The accommodation website, which describes itself as a site to ‘rent unique places to stay from local hosts in 190+ countries’ is providing some stiff competition to hotels, which have seen a fall in profits as the new company becomes more popular.

The SNCF offered a free rail return for travellers booking with Airbnb, but the hotel industry feels that a public, government subsidised company should not be jumping into bed with a private, US based site which creates no jobs and little revenue in France.
