No more free book deliveries in France

In order to support the many small ‘librairies’ around France, and protect them from  competition from the big boys, a unanimous vote was passed this week in French parliament to ban online book retailers such as Amazon from making free book deliveries in France

The new law will still allow them to give up to five percent discount, the maximum allowed under existing French legislation.

Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti spoke of the network of bookshops in France, around 3,500, describing them as ‘unique in the world’ and ‘crucial for culture to reach small towns’.
