New website for special ‘Brexit deal’ residency cards to launch in July 2020

The authorities are in the process of creating a simplified system for dealing with applications  from the 152,000 plus British citizens living in the country,  to “facilitate the formalities that British people and members of their families will have to carry out”.

It is hoped that the online system will prevent relevant government agencies from being overwhelmed with floods of applications and speed up the process to obtain the new titre de séjour ‘accord de retrait du Royaume-Uni de l’UE (a Brexit deal card).

If you haven’t applied for a carte de séjour yet then it’s a case of sit and wait. If you already have an EU long stay carte de séjour it is likely that the exchange process will be simple. And if you applied for a card via the French government’s old ‘no-deal’ site, then your application is already in the system and will be dealt with, according to the Interior Ministry.

If you don’t already live in France you have until 31st December 2020, when the transition period ends, to become resident in order to benefit from the terms of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and secure the residency rights that it accords.
