10th September 2023 - 5th November 2023

Automne Musical en Vallespir

Firmly established on the P-O musical calendar, now into its 14th edition, the renowned Automne musical en Vallespir (Amuvall) festival continues to promote and celebrate the best in regional, national and international music.

Organised by Musiques et Voix en Pays Catalans, the festival is a collection of 12 superb concerts by professional musicians across the communes that make up the Communauté de Commune du Vallespir.

Artistic director, Christian Papis, shares his particular passion for classical singing and opera but also brings together a range of other genres and styles.

During the festival, why not tie in the concert with a visit to the Musée d’art moderne? The Musée de MúSIC is offering FREE entry on presentation of your concert ticket! Find out more here.

And perhaps a little apéro or a meal in one of the many great bars and restaurants across the Vallespir. Several are offering a 5% discount during the festival. Check out the list of participating restaurants here.

Programme 2023

Sunday 10 September, 5pm
Le PERTHUS – Salle des Fêtes
Félicien Brut
: Solo recital from the representative of the accordion among the new generation of classical musicians. Bringing together popular, academic and classical techniques, he also pays tribute to the musette style, all the while favouring contemporary creation.

Saturday 16 September, 4.30pm
Les CLUSES – Église Saint Nazaire
Stabat Mater : This moving piece has inspired many composers since the Renaissance. Luigi Boccherini, virtuoso cellist and indisputable master of chamber music, approaches the writing of this religious work with total respect for its identity. The accompanying quintet provides the perfect backdrop to the best chamber music compositions of late classicism.

Sunday 17 September, 5pm
L’ALBÈRE – Eglise Saint Jean
Trio Juglars : A traditional cobla, as has existed in northern Catalonia until the 19th century, the ancestor of the coblas we know today. Both instruments and repertoires are the result of research begun more than twenty years ago and continued today by instrument maker, Pierre Jordà.

Saturday 23 September, 5pm
TAILLET – Eglise Saint Valentine
Trio Llibertat
: A concert of duets and trios from Martine Flaissier on harp, Claire Sala on flute and countertenor, Gil Granjean. The musicians perform an incredible 15 pieces.

Friday 29 September, 8pm
VIVES – Salle Polyvalent
Trio Mouratoglou : Philippe Mouratoglou with Bruno Chevillon and Ramon Lopez return with a new, exploratory repertoire : rereading of Ricercare by the great Renaissance lutenist Francesco da Milano, dreamy evocation of a classics (Sometimes I feel like a motherless child, The Peacocks), tribute to American singer Scott Walker…

Sunday 1 October, 5pm
MAUREILLAS – Foyer Municipal
Concert Poulenc : La voix humaine is a lyrical tragedy, written by Christophe Poulenc in 1959, portrays a difficult breakup, full of interruptions and break down of communication, and requires great vocal and theatrical stamina from the performer. The Gloria is one of Poulenc’s most popular sacred works, written for solo soprano and choir.

Sunday 8 October, 6pm
SAINT JEAN PLA de CORTS – Salle Polyvalente
Brass Band de Toulouse : Composed exclusively of brass and percussion, the composition of 33 talented musicians and trumpet soloist, Lucienne Renaudin Vary, create a sound so velvety, critics thought it was only possible of string ensembles!

Sunday 15 October, 5pm
Le BOULOU – Église Sainte Marie
Petite messe solennelle : An offbeat representation of Rossini’s artistic testament returns to the composer’s original intentions: no emphatic orchestration, no large choir. Just twelve singers, as indicated on the first page of the score sheet, perfectly display the subtlety of the polyphony.

Friday 20 October, 8pm
REYNÈS – Chapelle Saint Paul
Concert de mandolines : This mandolin orchestra was founded in 1973 in Langendorf, a small village 150 km south of Hamburg. They now comprise 12 mandolins, 4 mandalas, 3 guitars, and a double bass. The ensemble has performed all over the world and achieved international acclaim.

Saturday 4 November, 8pm / Sunday 5 November, 4.30pm
CERET – Salle de l’Union
Le Barbier de Seville : Rossini’s 2 act opera is full of bribery, deception and disguise… a comical, mischievous masterpiece full of memorable melodies and frivolous fun.
