SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: APRIL 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone\nI hope everyone had a lovely Easter.\nAm I allowed to say – we welcomed the rain with open arms this week! A whole day of rain in fact. \nThe Season is nearly upon us – clocks have gone forward and hey presto the campsites are going all out for that extra star rating. Lots of additional mobile homes and reception areas which wouldn’t be out of place in 4 star hotels. \nIn the natural world\, the birds are quietly feathering their nests. The hoopoe though is lagging behind and still searching for a mate. I say hoopoe but I never know if there are two or three birds out there. There’s a sort of morse code conversation going on as their plaintive oops echo around the trees. Such a beautiful bird. It’s worth waiting patiently to catch sight of one. \n\nDrop Ins\n\n\nWednesday 3 April\, Pablo’s Bar\, Céret\, 10.30 \n\nCome along for coffee and chat.  There will also be books and Céret is a great place to meet up with friends.\n\nMonday 15 April\, Café des Artistes\, Laroque des Albères\, 10.15 \nCome and have a browse through our large selection of paperbacks. Any books you bring along for exchange will be gratefully received. We can’t take hardbacks or non-fiction books I’m afraid. Bring a friend and stay for coffee.\nWednesday 17 April\, Villa Lafabrègue\, Prades\, 10.15 \nThere will be coffee and books as usual in this beautiful villa and perhaps a chance to sit outside in the sunshine.\n\nActivity for Life\, Thursday 25th April\, Oms\nThursday 25 April Activity for Life Oms \nOur Walk for Life will be in Oms this year and it will be a Spring Walk rather than a Summer one! \nIn the morning there will be two walks of 4km (1h30) or 9km (2h30)or you can join a friendly pétanque tournament. There is a 5€ registration fee. \nThere will be a bar for beer\, wine\, tea\, coffee and soft drinks\, plus cakes and small savouries. Also books and greetings cards. \nBring your own picnic and join in the fun. Oms is a lovely village not far from Céret. \nLooking ahead\nSunday 5 May\, Vide Grenier Saint Cyprien\, 9am – 5.30pm \nLa Ligue contre le cancer will have a table at this Vide. CSF will be there\, with a table next to La Ligue\, and we will be giving out information and leaflets to those who wish to know more about us. \nWe hope to have our own Vide Grenier later in the year\, possibly in June sometime. \nTuesday 7 May\, Spring Open Meeting\, Céret \nThis is our informal meeting which we have every year around this time. I always call it a get-together because it’s really a chance to meet up with friends\, learn a bit about what’s going on in the CSF calendar\, listen to an entertaining speaker and then relax and chat over a nice lunch. \nThis year we will meet chez Guy Molas. His restaurant is on the road between St Jean-Plat-de-Corts and Céret and it’s a delightful little place with a terrace and a lovely view. \nOur speaker is a gentleman called Fred Browne who was a consultant forensic psychiatrist in Belfast during the Troubles and has seen many changes\, both professionally and personally. His talk will be called « Exploring Minds ». \nTake a look at the lunch menu\, which I hope will be an added incentive to put this meeting in your diary! I will be sending out an official invitation soon with more information about the meeting and asking you to let me know your menu choices. The price of the meal is 22€. \nSaturday 5 October\, Fête October Rose\, 12pm \nOur Autumn event this year will be a LUNCH AT THE DOMAINE MAS ALART. This vineyard\, set in the heart of the Roussillon plain\, has been there since 1897. \nAs you know\, the Octobre Rose campaign makes it possible to raise awareness and inform and encourage screening in the fight against breast cancer. \nAs our event takes place at this particular time of year\, we thought it would be appropriate to name it Fête October Rose. \nThe afternoon will begin with a fizzy apéro and continue with lunch and then dessert. Wine will be served of course and there will be music from our friends Zircon. Dancing will be encouraged. There will be prizes to be won – a tombola and a surprise draw. Fun for everyone. \nEntrance by ticket only and the cost is 20€. Watch this space for more details and please make a note of the date. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help\, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open.   We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer. There is also lots of information on our website.\n\n\n\n\n\nA  joyful Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year to you all!\nDiana Eastaff \nShare this:\n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n\n	Related\n
