SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: FEBRUARY 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone\n\n\nPhew! January is a loooonggg month. I have to say I haven’t been out much but the birds are tucking into the fat balls and the nuts and seeds I’ve strung up in the olive trees. This is odd to me – we’ve had warm weather so why do they need to feed? I’ll answer that myself – because it’s that time of year when birds need to fatten up and they are as aware as we are that the temperature can drop just like that. \nThose hills though. So clear and bright in the morning sun and even though I have been too busy to even take a walk\, I was up in the hills above Sorède recently and it is so peaceful. Take the car\, go halfway up and walk a bit\, stop\, and listen to the silence. \nThe AGM Sud de France was held on Wednesday 31 January. It sounds like the meeting went well. Here’s a summary: \nThe venue at the Ibis Styles at Castelnaudary was a pleasant change with a nice meal. The AGM was very well attended with 48 members present and we had 27 proxy voters. Fortunately the action being taken by the agricultural workers did not stop anyone arriving albeit some were a little late. Those standing for the conseil were elected unanimously. Jane summed up a successful 2023\, thanking all our volunteers in their various roles – ALs both one to one and language supporters plus those at Drop Ins\, our trainers and conseil members\, volunteers helping at events\, or just supporting by being members. She thanked Penny who stood down from her secretary role and presented her with a bunch of flowers and introduced Cheryl\, the new secretary. Sue Ackloo ran through the finances and the accounts and budget were approved unanimously. \nSuzanne Richardson-Coward gave an entertaining and interactive talk about the health benefits of exercise in many guises. The morning ended with the room doing a rendition of YMCA. \n(Note: a video of the rendition of YMCA will be available on request!) \nDrop Ins\n\n\nWednesday 7 February\, Pablo’s Bar\, Céret\, 10.30 \n\nCome along for coffee and chat.  There will also be books and Céret is a great place to meet up with friends.\n\nMonday 19 February\, Café des Artistes\, Laroque des Albères\, 10.15 \n\nCome along and buy a coffee and take away a book or two.  If you have books to bring\, they must be paperbacks please.  No large books and no hardbacks or non-fiction.\n\nWednesday 21 February\, Villa Lafabrègue\, Prades\, 10.15 \nThere will be coffee\, tea and books as usual\, plus cake and biscuits.\n\nLooking ahead\nThursday 25 April Activity for Life Oms \nOur Walk for Life will be in Oms this year and as you see it will be a Spring Walk rather than a Summer one! \nIn the morning there will be two walks and a friendly pétanque tournament\, for which there is a 5€ registration fee. \nThere will be a bar and cakes and savouries. Bring a picnic and join in the fun. Oms is a lovely village not far from Céret. \nPlease have a look at the poster for full details. \nTuesday 7 May Spring Open Meeting Céret \nThis is our informal meeting which we have every year around this time. I always call it a get-together because it’s really a chance to meet up with friends\, learn a bit about what’s going on in the CSF calendar\, listen to an entertaining speaker and then relax and chat over a nice lunch. \nI’m pleased to tell you that we have changed the venue – this time we will meet chez Guy Molas. His restaurant is on the road between St Jean-Plat-de-Corts and Céret and it’s a delightful little place with a terrace and a lovely view. \nOur speaker is a gentleman called Fred Browne who was a consultant psychiatrist in Belfast during the Troubles and has seen many changes\, both professionally and personally. \nThere will be more about this meeting (and the lunch) later but please do put the date in your diary. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help\, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open.   We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer. There is also lots of information on our website.\n\n\n\n\n\nA  joyful Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year to you all!\nDiana Eastaff \nShare this:\n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n\n	Related\n
