SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: JULY 2016
DESCRIPTION: \nHello Everyone \nAs I begin to write this newsletter on the first day of July\, it occurs to me that instead of moaning about the long queues on roads and in supermarkets\, we should be looking forward to two months of breathing-space and rejoicing in the fact that it’s Summer.   I may be in a minority here but I rather like the holiday atmosphere everywhere.  Busy markets\, bars and restaurants.  The camp-sites are alive again.  There’s music and animation – swooping swifts\, chirping crickets\, butterflies\, dragonflies\, grasshoppers ….. praying mantises! \nThe next two months tend to be quiet months for CSF but our Drop Ins are fully operational.  I’m sure one of our three venues are within close reach of most people.  A perfect opportunity for a morning out and why not combine it with lunch and a look round the town? \n\n\nYou will see later that we are asking for gifts and bottles for our annual Autumn Ball.  Over the next couple of months you are welcome to bring these to one of our Drop Ins listed here\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday 6 July  –    Céret    –    10.30-12\n\nDrop In to Pablo’s Bar in the Place Pablo Picasso.   Do come to the bar\, sit outside and have a coffee\, browse through the books and chat to friends and members.  Bring your visitors and take a tour around the village.   If you’re planning to do the Walk for Life walk in September\, this could be a good opportunity to go and check out the route (see below).\n\nMonday 18 July   –    Laroque    –    10.30-12    \nOur Book Exchange is at the Café des Artistes.   Update your summer reading and exchange your paperbacks.  Also CDs and DVDs.  You can buy a coffee and take two books.  CSF members are always on hand.\n\nWednesday 20 July  –  Ille-sur-Têt  –  10-12\nDrop In to Lizzie’s Kitchen at 16 Route de Prades  Tea\, coffee and cakes will be on offer as usual. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFORTHCOMING EVENTS\n\nSunday 4 September At Home 3pm   Caixas\nPenny and Frank will be welcoming us into their home once again.\nThis is a convivial opportunity for members\, supporters and all those interested in CSF to get together.  A buffet supper will be available from 5.30pm or just pop in any time for a drink and a chat.  (More on this next month.)\n\nSunday 11-16 September             The Canal du Garonne Cycle Ride                                     \nThis is an event which takes place every year and is organised by CSF.  It is open to everyone across France.  The cycle ride will be from Bordeaux to Toulouse. You can take part in any or all of the stages.   Perhaps you would like to help or come and cheer our riders en route or at the Toulouse finishing line on September 16th.\nYou can find more information if you go to the csf canal du midi cycle ride Facebook page or talk to Hazel Turner (sud-secretary@cancersupportfrance.org)\nMore details soon.\n\nSunday 18 September  CSF ACTIVITY FOR LIFE 2016   \nAs you know\, the ‘Walk For Life’ theme has been broadened to include as many activities as possible in as many of the 13 CSF associations throughout France as we can.\nHere in the P.O. we have chosen to do a walk in Céret and we very much hope you will participate\, help or just come along and have some fun supporting CSF.\n\nWalk for Life Une Randonnée Conviviale\nIf you look at their website\, you will see that La Rondé Cérétane has a lot to offer over the weekend of 17-18 September.  (http://www.rondeceretane.com)\nCSF is joining a walk in Céret.   I’m sure most of you know the town of Céret but if you haven’t been up into the surrounding hills why not join us on a hike. \nWe plan to meet up in a garden in Céret for some refreshments before the start which can be anytime between 7.30 and 9am.  Then it’s off on a 9km walk of moderate difficulty\, with a few small hills\, nothing more.  The walk must finish at noon.\n\nWe will then gather again in the garden for a group picnic when water\, wine and homemade cakes will be available .  There will be a buvette at the halfway point and a free tee shirt at the finish.  There’s a small sign-up fee of €9.\n\n***We would like to get some idea of how many of you would like to join us for this event so if you’re interested in signing up or would like more details\, please contact Lynn Hall (lynnrhall66@gmail.com)***\n\nFriday 14 October Scottish Country Dancing         Eus 3-6pm \nA lively afternoon of music and dance is proposed for those of you brave enough to join us for some Scottish Country Dancing and Line Dancing.  So take your partners please!\nDerek Taylor will be the caller for the dances and his band Nostalgia will provide the music. There’ll be coffee and cake to keep you going.  Donations will be gratefully received by CSF (and another charity t.b.c.)\nIf you need more info please contact Maggie (maggie.longworth@gmail.com).\n\nSaturday 15 October Autumn Ball       Salle des Fetes Bages\nThis is a splendid evening of fund-raising with prizes\, music and dancing.  There’ll be Tombola\, a Bottle Stall and an Auction of Promises.  The Bar will have beer and wine.\nMusic will be supplied by the band Zircon.  A 15€ ticket will also include tapas\, a dessert and one drink.  Tickets will be on sale very soon.\n\nWe need your help please.  Can you have a dig around in your cupboards for unopened bottles for the Bottle Stall?  They can be plastic or glass containing anything from mustard to Muscadet\, water to washing-up liquid.  (Do email me if you have any questions on this.)\nAlso Rita ( rita.hagg@orange.fr) is collecting gifts for her Tombola stall and she would be very grateful for any donations.\nPlease bring bottles and gifts to one of the Drop-Ins or\, if you are a CSF Volunteer\, to one of the next two training sessions.\n\nThe Auction of Promises is a bidding event in which the prizes can be\, for example\, a tennis lesson\, a meal at a restaurant\, an adventure park ticket\, a haircut\, a spa session etc.  If you are able to help with any of these or have some ideas\, please contact Claudia (clatsch07@gmail.com).\n\n\n\nA bientôt!\nDiana Eastaff\n\ndianaeastaff@orange.fr  \nPlease pass this on to anyone you know who may be interested in any of these events and for further information please contact me by e-mail on deastaff@yahoo.co.uk or by phone 04 68 82 90 49. \nAnd check out our website at csf-suddefrance.webs.com for all our future events \nShare this:\n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n\n	Related\n
