SUMMARY:FILAF\, International Art\, Book and Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:International Art\, Book and Film Festival\nCinéma Le Castillet\, Perpignan \n \n  \nThe International Art\, Book and Film Festival will take place in Perpignan from 21st – 27rd June. A jury made up of industry giants chooses the best books and films about art published in the year. \nInternational art and film production\, in both French and English\, is a thriving industry and during the course of the year\, the festival team and committee have consulted hundreds of books and movies. \nFilm screenings\, book signings\, conferences and award ceremonies… there’s loads going on for even the most discerning culture vulture. \nThe ArtBookFair\nAgain this year\, curator Laura Morsch-Kihn will host the ‘My Favorite Things’ book fair; a space of production\, consultation and appropriation dedicated to publishing at the Maison Quinta in Perpignan. \nConceived as a contextual project\, this project is a series of improvised meetings between artists\, publishers and festival-goers and will take the shape of DIY publications produced with the help of a photocopy machine. \nThe Torcatis bookshop in central Perpignan will house the more traditional book market\, where you’re sure to bag a bargain. \nEntry is free to both. \n\nJust a glimpse of some of the cinema screenings for Anglophones\nBeyond the Visible: Hilma AF Klimt\, Halina Dyrschka\, 2019\, (DE)\nEnglish & German/ English subtitles\nThis is the first film about the life and work of Hilma af Klint. The documentary examines the role of women in the history of art and attempts to understand why the artist was scandalously denied the status of a pioneer of modern art and how this recognition is finally taking place. \nEverything in the Past has Life\, Zhongkai Li\, 2020\, (USA)\nMandarin/English subtitles\nMany Chinese families\, under the one-child policy\, have hidden their additional children. The artist and director\, the third child and only boy in the sibling group\, tells of his upbringing and story. \nLandscape Film : Roberto Burle Marx\, João Vargas Penna\, 2018\, (BR)\nPortuguese/English subtitles\nA journey through the memories\, ideas and gardens of Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx. \nThe Soul of Miro’s Workshops\, Cesc Mulet 2019\, (ES)\nCatalan/English subtitles\nFollowing the renovation of the Taller Sert in Palma\, we discover the imprint of Joan Miró and the soul of his three studios: Mas Miró in Montroig\, Taller Sert and Son Boter in Palma. \nWoodstock\, Michael Wadleigh\, 1970\, (USA)\nEnglish/French subtitles\nA concert scene is built before our eyes\, and the music\, at the same time\, invades our eardrums. Right through to the end of the festival\, “peace and love”\, is the driving force of this film. \nHome Away From Home : The Worlds of Do Ho Suh\, Marjoleine Boonstra\, 2019\, (NL)\nEnglish\nDo Ho Suh is a Korean sculptor living between London\, Seoul and New York. By translating his lodgings into translucent and chimerical works of art\, he never ceases to question where and when home exists. \nSteven Arnold : Heavenly Bodies\, Vishnu Dass\, 2019\, (USA)\nEnglish\nAn ode to the surrealist life (prematurely interrupted) and the vast artistic output of American multimedia artist\, photographer filmmaker and Salvador Dalí’s protégé: Steven Arnold. \nEtre Jérôme Bel\, Sima Khatami et Aldo Lee\, 2019\, (FR)\nFrench/English subtitles\nIn 2015\, the directors were given carte blanche to film the artist-choreographer Jérôme Bel at work. But making a film about Bel\, is to embark on a paradoxical project: how to stage the work of a’anti-staging director’? \nKoolhaas Houselife\, Bêka & Lemoine\, 2008\nFrench/English subtitles\nAn atypical visit to one of the key architectural monuments of the late 20th century century: the Maison in Bordeaux built by the architect Rem Koolhaas/OMA in 1998. Unlike most architecture films\, Koolhaas Houselife is less about understanding the building\, than to let the viewer\, for once\, simply enter into the invisible sphere of the daily intimacy of an icon of contemporary architecture. \n\n\n\n\nFor more info and the full programme click here.\nPrice per film : 4€\nDay pass : 10€\nFestival pass : 35€\n\n\n\n\n  \nShare this:\n Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Click to share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n\n	Related\n
