DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nwith Ellen Hall\n \n[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nThe association Les Amis de Patrick O’Brian invites you to an illustrated talk about Collioure in the 1950’s by Nikolai Tolstoy\, Patrick’s stepson. Nikolai’s talk will be based on the diaries of his mother\, Mary O’Brian\, who wrote about everyday life in their new home\, which afforded Patrick the peace and solitude he needed in order to write as well as the friendship and generosity of their neighbours. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”27550″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Collioure was O’Brian’s home for over 50 years. He became famous as the author of Master and Commander and the 20 Aubrey-Maturin novels set during the Napoleonic wars all of which were written in Collioure. \nThe association Les Amis de Patrick O’Brian has recently been given the remaining contents of O’Brian’s writing room. In cooperation with the Mairie of Collioure and the Commune des communes\, the association will make his books and objects available for public view and private study in the new médiathèque. \nFor an annual membership of 15 € you can help support our efforts to rescue and preserve\npart of our literary heritage. Our team will be on hand to answer your questions and sign you up. \nRendez-vous at 18h30\, Saturday 20 May in the centre culturel\, Collioure. Le discours de Nicolas sera basé sur les journaux intimes de sa mère\, Mary O’Brian\, qui a écrit sur la vie quotidienne dans leur nouvelle maison de Collioure\, qui a donné à Patrick la paix et la solitude nécessaire pour écrire\, ainsi que sur l’amitié et la générosité de leurs voisins. \nCollioure était la résidence de O’Brian depuis plus de 50 ans. Il est devenu célèbre comme auteur de Maître à Bord et les 20 romans de la série Aubrey-Maturin pendant les guerres napoléoniennes\, tous écrits à Collioure. L’association Les Amis de Patrick O’Brian a reçu en donation les derniers éléments contenus dans le bureau d’O’Brian. En coopération avec la Mairie de Collioure et la Communauté de communes\, l’association mettra ses livres et objets à la disposition du public et de l’étude privée dans la nouvelle médiathèque. \nPour une adhésion annuelle de 15 € vous pouvez nous aider à soutenir les efforts destinés à sauver et préserver une partie de notre patrimoine littéraire.
