SUMMARY:VIVRE LA FRONTIERE EXHIBITION\, PERPIGNAN
DESCRIPTION:Vivre la Frontière: Living on the border\n  \nPhoto credit: Jin Justin\nVivre la Frontière is an exhibition put together from the archives of Perpignan’s Centre International de Photojournalisme (CIP) exploring what it is like to live on a border. \nThe exhibition features photos taken between 1980 and 2017 at borders including the frontier between France and Spain in 1980\, Ciudad Juarez in Mexico in 1997 and an apartment in the Parisian suburbs in 2010. \nBorders – both visible and invisible – have always been fascinating to photojournalists as places which frequently reveal what is going on in the wider world. They are their own unique world between two worlds and the men\, women and children who live there are often surrounded by conflicting dynamics. \nThe migrant crisis\, Brexit\, the rise of the extreme right across Europe and Trump’s determination to build his wall show that we are still a long way from breaking down the borders that separate us. This is definitely an exhibition to make you think. \nEntry to the exhibition is free. \nOpening hours: \nMonday to Friday 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm. \nDid you know? \nThe Centre International de Photojournalisme (CIP) is the hub of the annual Visa pour l’Image exhibition which takes place every September and showcases the stunning\, and often harrowing\, work of photojournalists from around the world. \nThroughout the year the CIP also works to consolidate the festival’s heritage by ‘defending promoting and developing all forms of photojournalism as a vital tool to preserve our collective memory\, witness and record history as it unfolds before us\, and defend the freedom of expression across the world.’ \nCIP is housed in one of Perpignan’s most iconic buildings\, the Couvent des Minimes\, in the historic city centre and houses a photojournalism archive as well as hosting exhibitions\, workshops and conferences. \nRead more about Visa pour l’Image here and bookmark your diaries with this year’s dates: 29th August to 13th September 2020. \n

SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: APRIL 2020
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHello Everyone\n\n\nThe sun had gone in but I went for a walk anyway.  Wrapped up against a strange easterly wind which had been blowing for about 2 days\, I tramped through the woods.  In amongst the cistus and the heathers there were wonderful peaty and piney smells\, damp and fresh.  Lots of buds too.  Not a pretty nature walk but\, even so\, one which was quite new to me.  Now that our movements are restricted\, I appreciate all the more having had all day to get lost\, lingering to touch soft young pine cones and leaning down to smell the yellow flowers of a prickly gorse. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Vins de Femmes on Saturday 7 March was a great success.  This was a new event\, organised by 12 vineyards\, all of them with lady winegrowers.  It was held at the Chateau de L’Ou near Villeneuve de la Raho. \nA strong tramontane was blowing as we made our way to the Chateau to set up our stand inside the entrance\, but neither this nor the threat of coronavirus put anyone off coming.  The event was to raise funds for CSF and the ladies were expecting around 200 attendees. \nIn fact\, much to everyone’s delight\, nearly 1\,000 people came through the door!!  It was a superb evening with music\, food\, a talk on wine tasting\, a “thank you” from our President and a few words from the President of La Ligue 66 about our partnership………oh\, and some wine tasting! \n\n\n\nNew CSF Merchandise: Cap\, Polo Shirts & Fleeces \n \n\n\nEmergency Medical Centre opening in Perpignan \nPerpignan now has an emergency medical centre called Centre Covid-19 Perpignan. Find out more details here. \n\nIMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!\nAll the April Drop-Ins are cancelled.  If you can\, please keep your paperbacks and bring them when we’re back in business. \n\n\nThe CSF Open Meeting on the 15 April has been cancelled. \nLes Printemps de la cancerologie – ICIC on 23 April has not yet been officially cancelled.  Have a look on their website to check the latest situation. We have pulled out this year \nThe Cycle for Life has been postponed until 23rd September – see below. \n\n\n\n\nLOOKING AHEAD\nSaturday 6th June CAUS 66  L’Université de la Santé\, Perpignan        \nWe are pleased to announce that this week CSF signed the convention with CAUS66 – Maison des Usagers.  This is a big step forward for us in the P-O. \nThe Maison des Usagers is a group of organisations throughout France which brings together under one roof all the patient associations for all sorts of illnesses.  They also interact with the hospitals and clinics. \nTo be signed up with them means greater accessibility for CSF.  They can support CSF and we can support them. Have a look at the CAUS66 website and you’ll see that we are in good company \nAs an Association Member\, CSF is entitled to a stand at the CAUS 66 3ème Université de la Santé which takes place on Saturday 6th June at Place du Souvenir Francais et Allees Maillot in Perpignan\, near the Palais des Congrès. \nIt’s a day of conferences and events and all the Associations\, including CSF of course\, will have a stand. \nWe very much hope that you will come along\, especially as it’s our first time at this convention.  Let Maggie know if you are coming\, preferably before 10th April\, and let her know whether you would like lunch which is €10. \nAlso\, if you feel you would like to help on the stand\, we would of course be very grateful. Maggie’s email is sud-po@cancersupportfrance.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday 7th June Vide Grenier St Cyprien \nAs far as we know\, this large vide grenier\, organised by La Ligue\, will go ahead.  We normally have a couple of tables and it’s very well attended.  If you have any good quality bric-a-brac or nearly new gifts which you would like to donate\, please keep them aside for now.  We’ll have more news on this next month. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday 10th September Activity for Life Maureillas \nWe are looking forward to doing our Walk for Life again this year. We have still not been able to confirm the date with the Mairie at Mareillas.  This is largely due to the local elections and\, straight after that\, the cancellation of all council meetings!  Bear with us though. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday 23rd September Cycle For Life 2020 Rochefort to Angoulême \nFaced with so much uncertainty\, we held a Cycle for Life meeting on Monday and have taken the decision to postpone it until the autumn.  Although we will continue using the Flow Velo route\, the ride will now take place over 4 days starting on Wednesday 23rd September in Rochefort and ending in Angoulême on Saturday lunchtime with a welcome. \nWe will continue with the overnight stops as before\, at St Savinien and Cognac\, arriving in Angoulême on Friday evening 25th. \nOn the morning of Saturday 26th there will be a local short ride organised around the area\, rather as we did at Agde a couple of years ago.  That means people can set off home or may even take the chance to stay on for a long weekend. \nMore information will be sent out shortly and the various websites will be updated in a couple of days. \n\nSaturday 17th October Autumn Ball \nThis is the date for our next Autumn Ball which will be in Bages again this year.  Please put it in your diary! \n\n\n\n\nDiana Eastaff[/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n\n\n

SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: MAY 2020
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHello Everyone\n\n\nOn a long journey in the car\, there’s a game we used to play with my 3-year-old grandson  – spot the red cars.  It made the time pass quickly.  We’re now into our seventh week of confinement and cars are still  few and far between but there’s no shortage of ingenious ways to distract us\, occupy us\, keep us fit and keep us happy.  Plus\, some of us Luddites are crawling out of our dusty caves and using things like Zoom\, FaceTime and Skype to speak to much missed friends and family. \nThe other day I zipped up my anorak and went on a mission to photograph every wild flower within the 1km proximity of my house – did you know that there are at least three different kinds of pine cones in a pine forest? \nWe all have different pursuits and pleasures.  Crosswords\, codewords\, Sudoku\, box-set bingeing\, swapping recipes and poems\, cheeky photos and videos.  InstructorLive gets you pilates\, yoga and dance workouts in your sitting room.  Jigsaw puzzles! You can actually do these online – 8 or 1000 pieces –  try to avoid sites with too many pop-ups or ads. \nThe initial buzz I got from going masked and gloved into a supermarket\, didn’t last.  I spent the next day worrying about every sniff and cough\, thinking I’d picked something up from all the unmasked\, fearless people who didn’t seem to know about social distancing. By the way\, I put my anorak back on and made a short film of my wild flower expedition. iMovies\, another app with which to while away the hours! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI’m afraid there will be no Drop Ins this month and the CAUS 66 and the Vide Grenier due to take place in June\, have both been cancelled but I’m pleased to announce that summer will go ahead as planned and here’s what we can look forward to later on in the year.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOOKING AHEAD\n\n\n\n\nThursday 10th September Activity for Life Maureillas \nOur Walk for Life will take place again this year.  We have still not been able to confirm the date with the Mairie at Mareillas.  More on this soon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday 23rd September Cycle For Life 2020 Rochefort to Angoulême \n\nAs you know\, Cycle for Life has been postponed untill September. Although we will continue using the Flow Vélo route\, the ride will now take place over 4 days starting on Wednesday 23rd September in Rochefort and ending in Angoulême on Saturday lunchtime with a welcome. \nWe will continue with the overnight stops as before\, at St Savinien and Cognac\, arriving in Angoulême on Friday evening 25th.  On the morning of Saturday 26th there will be a local short ride organised around the area\, rather as we did at Agde a couple of years ago.  That means people can set off home or may even take the chance to stay on for a long weekend. \n\n \n\nSaturday 17th October Autumn Ball \nThis is the date for our next Autumn Ball which will be in Bages again this year.  Please put it in your diary! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd finally:\n\n\n\n\n\nAt our AGM in January 2019 we celebrated the 10th anniversary of CSF Sud.  We started off with a round-up of the first 10 years\, followed by what to expect in the coming year and we finished up with Penny relinquishing her role as President. \nThis year at the AGM we welcomed back as our speaker Dr Martin Christlieb from the Department of Oncology at Oxford University.  He spoke about clinical trials of new treatments and how to measure their effectiveness.  It’s quite a long video but Martin is excited by his research and this makes his presentation both informative and entertaining. \nWe thought you would like to use this period of peace and solitude to watch the video recordings:  the first is 10 minutes and the second is a bit longer 45 minutes.  Follow the link\, then scroll down to Sud de France Menu and under Photo & Video Gallery you’ll find both videos. \nAlso\, read at your leisure the April Touchlines \nMy very best wishes to you all. \n\n\nDiana Eastaff \n\n\n
