SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: OCTOBER 2020
DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe chilly wind told me to wrap up on my walk the other day and I wasn’t surprised to see a thick coating of snow on Canigou.  We optimistically left the cover on the pool in the hope that the water would be warm enough for a last swim of the season but only a tiny frog was brave enough to take the plunge! \nThe leaves are reluctantly submitting to the call of autumn.   People have already started chopping bits off their shrubs.  But my agapanthuses – all 13 of them – are still proudly displaying their stems – well\, what right have I to interfere with nature when there are seeds to be scattered! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCycle for Life\nPenny has written about the Cycle For Life which took place last month: \n\n\nThe CSF Annual Cycle for Life \n\n\nWednesday September 23rd to Saturday September 26th 2020 \nFollowing La Flow Velo through the Charente \n\nThe Cycle for Life 2020 is now over\, leaving memories of the smell of the grape harvest\, delightful countryside\, some wet weather and many memories shared by the cyclists. \n14 gallant souls set out on Day 1 with 9 cycling every day and an extra 3 who joined the morning circular route around Angoulême on Saturday.   This was followed by a welcome lunch prepared by Paula and her team from Dordogne Riberac. Have a look at the website under National News for the daily bulletin and some photos. \nA fuller account will be in the next edition of Touchlines.  In the meantime\, don’t forget that this is the only fund raising event organised by CSF National.  If you were not able to join but would like to support CSF\, then it isn’t too late to make a donation via our alvarum page. \nAnd finally\, as well as enormous thanks to the cyclists\, many thanks must go the others  who made the Cycle for Life 2020 possible in this difficult year. \nRoll on 2021 – where shall we be? \nYou can look at the photos here. \nActivity For Life\nOur own Walk for Life took place on 10 September.   We were lucky with the weather – not too hot but bright with sunny spells.  It was perfect for walking. \nMusique à Maureillas accompanied us while we tucked into our picnics.  The pre-wrapped cakes and savouries went down well and our Bottles and Books were a great success! \nLa Ligue took 162€50\, 50% of the registration fees\, and we finished up with €1081.  Thank you to all who came to walk and support. \nIncidentally\, the Mairie waived the €60 fee for the venue and Musique à Maureillas paid the SACEM fee of €48 for us. \nSausages\n\n\nFor anyone who is longing for some English sausages\, can I recommend our friend Corinne Carroll.  If you go to her website you will see that she is in our area at the end of October.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis month’s Drop Ins\n\n\n\nPLEASE REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR MASK\n\n\n\nWednesday 7th October  –   Céret    –    10.30am – 12pm   \n\n\n\nCafe Le France 35 Boulevard Maréchal Joffre OR Grand Caf’ 2 Rue Saint-Ferréol \nWe will not be able to have a Drop-in at Pablo’s Bar for the rest of the year as they are redecorating and renovating their premises.  If the weather is OK we will meet on the terrace of the Cafe Le France.  If it’s not good\, we will go inside (upstairs) at the Grand Caf’.  Please come and join us for coffee and books. \n\n\nMonday 19th October   –    Laroque des Albères    –    10.30am – 12pm \n\n\n\n\nThe Cafe des Artistes has very kindly said we can go inside if the weather is not good.  Bring your paperback books to swop and come and browse. Sadly we are no longer taking DVDs but we have had a good turnover of books recently so you may well find something you like!  Please join us for coffee and chats.  We look forward to seeing you. \nWednesday21st October  – Villa Lafabrègue Prades  –  10.15am – 12pm \n\n\nHere at our new venue in the centre of Prades\, there is a large house and garden.  The address is 15 Avenue Louis Prat\, 66500 Prades.  We can’t promise that we’ll be outside but there is plenty of room inside where there will be coffee\, tea and books. \nThis month we have a speaker\, Greg Jamison\, who will be talking about Mediterranean gardens. \nPlease note\, we start at 10.15 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOut Autumn Ball is cancelled this year\n\nDATES FOR THE DIARY\n\n\n\n\nSunday 29th November Christmas Market St Jean Pla de Corts \n\n\n\nIt looks like this will be going ahead and CSF will be there as usual with books and Christmas Cards.  It’s a great way to start the Christmas season with lots of present ideas on the arts & craft stalls\, plus cards and gifts\, stocking fillers\, homemade puds\, mince pies and cakes. \n\n\n\nLizzie’s Kitchen will be open for coffee\, tea and sandwiches. The plan is to make the area a bit bigger this year\, with a lot more tables. \nCSF Sud April Open Meeting \nWe have a tentative date for our annual Open Meeting  – Wednesday 14 April 2021.  Let’s hope we can go ahead with it this time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help\, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open.   We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer. \n\n\n\n\nWe will keep everyone informed of any further developments. \n\n\n\nDiana Eastaff \n\n\n
