SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: JULY 2023
DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone\n\nAhhh – please excuse me while I yawn. This hot weather is making me tired before I’ve even done anything. They call me the family lizard at home because I can lie in the sun forever but in THIS heat….! Where I live\, the pool is officially out of bounds but no one told the swallows and the swifts\, who dive down and do a sort of handbreak turn over the plastic pool cover. Yesterday late afternoon\, small grey tufts of cloud started to scatter across the sky. I leapt on my bike and five minutes later I felt one or two drops of cool rain on my face – wonderful!\nVide Grenier – St Cyprien Port – Sunday 28 May\nThere were fewer people this year at the Vide Grenier. We had a good pitch\, our table was next to La Ligue. The Vide was postponed from the week before because of rain and on this day it was quite cold. This\, and the fact that it had been postponed\, meant that there were fewer people than usual\, with not as many stands. A lot of people packed up early but we had quite a lot of interest\, with our CSF flyers prominent and our CSF banner flying high. We made a healthy €100 plus a lot of new friends. \nCall for tombola and raffle prizes\nWe would be very grateful indeed for anything you might have which you think worthy of a Tombola or Raffle prize. Bottles of wine or spirits\, unopened presents\, anything in good condition really: paintings\, ornaments\, china or glass\, scarves\, handkerchiefs\, fancy bedlinen.\nIf you would like to bring them along to any of our Drop Ins or events\, we’d be very grateful to have them for our Walk for Life in September and our Autumn Ball in October. Or you can email me and I’ll arrange collection.\nThank you. \nEnglish greeting cards\nCome along to any of our events or Drop Ins and you’ll see that we are selling really good quality English cards. We have single cards for lots of different occasions and boxes of beautifully designed note cards. \nThese have been donated by our friend Shirley Morton who some of you may know. \nThe prices range from 2€ to 5€ and\, of course\, we are always happy to accept a donation. \n\n\nDrop Ins\n\n\nWednesday 5 July\, Pablo’s Bar\, Céret\, 10.30 \n\nCome along for coffee and chat.  There will also be books and greetings cards and Céret is a great place to meet up with friends.\n\nMonday 17 July\, Café des Artistes\, Laroque des Albères\, 10.15 \nCome along and buy a coffee and take away a book or two.  If you have books to bring\, they must be paperbacks please.  No large books and no hardbacks or non-fiction.  Don’t forget there will be greetings cards on sale!\nWednesday 19 July\, Villa Lafabrègue\, Prades\, 10.15 \nCatch up with friends at this splendid villa.  It’s in a beautiful area on the edge of the village. Coffee\, tea and books and greetings cards and maybe a few cakes.\nLooking ahead\nThursday 7th September\, Walk for Life\, Maureillas \nOur Walk for Life will be at Prat De La Farga again this year. \nThis is always a very well-supported event with two walks to choose from – an easy one and a not so easy one. The only information we have so far is that the long walk will be 9kms. \nIt’s a fun day for all ages! There will be a game of pétanque\, various stalls\, a Tombola and music. \nWe walk in the morning and then enjoy a picnic lunch together. More details to come but please make a note of the date! \nSaturday 7th October\, Autumn Ball\, Bages\, 7pm – Midnight \nOur Autumn Ball in the Salle des Fêtes in Bages is always a fun evening!\n\nTapas\, Dessert and a glass of wine plus music from Zircon and dancing after the meal.  There will also be a chance to win prizes on the Tombola and a Prize Draw at the end of the evening.\nThe price of a ticket is €20.   Please bring your friends and make a night of it.  We can reserve a table for up to 10 people.\n\nYou must purchase your ticket before the evening of the Ball and you can do this at any one of our events or Drop Ins or just email me.   Tickets will be on sale from August onwards.\n\nPLEASE DO COME – is there a better way to celebrate the beginning of Autumn !!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help\, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open.   We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer. There is also lots of information on our website.\n\n\n\n\nDiana Eastaff \n
