DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone\n\n\nHot enough for you? \nThe nice thing is that we seem to be getting a bit of respite now and then and by that I mean RAIN. \nThe bulldozers and wood choppers continue to erase the countryside to make way for concrete and tarmac but the undergrowth is fighting back and those pretty florescent yellow and green butterflies are quite pleased to have something flowery to visit. \nThe swifts swoop and dive\, catching insects on the wing.  Apparently they can cruise at a maximum speed of  112 km/h\, something those fat lizards on my wall can only dream about! \nI tell you what\, if football or tennis isn’t your thing\, after supper get yourself a glass of wine and sit outside – there’s lots to see and hear and you never know\, there might be a glorious sunset at the end of the evening. \n\n\n\nDrop Ins\n** Tombola Prizes For our October event this year we will need prizes. If you have a bottle or an unwanted gift\, why not bring it along to us at one of our Drop Ins ** (see below for details) \n\n\nWednesday 3 July\, Pablo’s Bar\, Céret\, 10.30 \nCome along for coffee and chat. Please note that we won’t be here in August.\n\nLooking ahead\nOctober Rose – Les Jeudis Roses de la Clinique 2024\n4 Thursdays of talks\, workshops and conferences about breast cancer\nOct 3\, 10\, 17 & 24 : 11am – 4pm \n🎗 To support Pink October\, the SOA (Soins d’Onco-Accompagnement) joins with PINK THURSDAYS in Perpignan at the Clinique St Pierre. \nSOA 66\, based in Perpignan\, offers support to people with cancer throughout the Pyrénées-Orientales. It gives supportive care to patients being treated in Oncology and/or Hematology in the form of alternative\, complementary care\, as well as financial support. The objective is to inform patients\, health professionals and visitors of the actions proposed by the association. \nCSF will have a stand and we’ll be handing out leaflets and chatting mostly to medical people\, letting them know what CSF is about and how we can help English speaking patients. (There will be no stands on 30 October.) \nA detailed programme will be available later on in the year but for the moment if anyone can do an hour or two in the morning or afternoon\, we’d very much appreciate it. This vineyard\, set in the heart of the Roussillon plain\, has been there since 1897. \nAs you know\, the Octobre Rose campaign makes it possible to raise awareness and inform and encourage screening in the fight against breast cancer. \nAs our event takes place at this particular time of year\, we thought it would be appropriate to name it Fête October Rose. \nThe afternoon will begin with a fizzy apéro and continue with lunch and then dessert. Wine will be served of course and there will be music from our friends Zircon. Dancing will be encouraged. There will be prizes to be won – a tombola** and a surprise draw. Fun for everyone. \nEntrance by ticket only and the cost is 20€. Tickets will be on sale from August. \n \n**Our Tombola table is always a great way of raising a bit of money. And remember\, the proceeds are shared equally with La Ligue. Take a chance\, buy a raffle ticket and win a prize – it could be a bottle of shampoo\, it could be a bottle of champagne. It could be a gift box of perfume or soap\, or a couple of ceramic bowls. \nAll these are donated items and we are asking you\, if you can\, to please donate – bottles of wine or water\, jam or beer\, unwanted gifts or anything you think you yourself might like to win! Your donations will be gratefully received at any of our upcoming events\, including Drop Ins\, or just email me and I will arrange pick up. SUMMARY:Déferlantes Opening Night in Le Barcarès
DESCRIPTION:Déferlantes Opening Night….with Laurianne Rawcliffe\nOpening night! Words that ignite excitement\, anticipation and a sense of curiosity. Will it be busy? Will the line- up be any good? Will the organisation hold up? \nWell\, it was brilliant. The vibe was fun\, the organisation was great and the bands were excellent! There were some (most…) artists I had never heard of\, but I am clearly in the minority. Crowds of mixed ages were singing along to the lyrics\, dancing and smiling away. It was very busy (the car parks cater for 12 000 and were pretty much full when I arrived at 19h30). But the grounds are spacious\, so there are areas that are not crowded at all and there are a few areas to chill: a sandy area at the front of the festival and access to the beach behind the grounded Lydia\, the 1930s steam cruise liner that gives its name to the beach itself. \n  \nDéferlantes Opening Night 2024\n  \nI would recommend giving yourself plenty of time to get there\, as finding a space to park took me a good 45 min. But then I arrived at the busiest time… There is a car park for disabled badge holders\, though it is still a good 10-minute walk to the entrance. There are also ‘navettes’ from the station and a few other locations. They looked packed but very frequent and I would definitely consider taking one of them if I didn’t live so close to Le Barcarès. They are also arranging their own car sharing platform. It’s all very cleverly put together. All the info is on their WEBSITE \nOnce inside\, you can’t use money. You need to use a QR coded bracelet that you can top up at their ‘banks’. This can also be done online\, which will save you queuing time. Any money not spent can be refunded at the end of the festival (set yourself a reminder). You can get chips for a couple of euros\, burgers for 10 and there is a decent variety of food options in the huge dedicated area. \nQuick tip about toilets – ladies I’m talking to you – the ones closest to the entrance were quick enough as you can push through the crowd to get to the row at the back. Each row of portacabins (mine was very clean and did not smell – update on the weekend!) has its own mini queue that is much faster. (You won’t find THESE but keep an eye out at other musical venues) \nThe set up changed slightly this year\, with a double main stage. This allowed the techies to do the change-over on one side\, while another band was playing on the other side\, but I have to say that I find it distracts a little from the musicians that are actually performing. Otherwise\, the set up and bands were fantastic. The performers were engaged\, the crowd was responsive without being rowdy\, there were even a few kids there with protective headphones on. The VIP area is on the Lydia boat and the Privilege area is along a raised section above the different branded bars. There are stalls to play\, drink\, eat\, learn\, be painted in glitter and even to get a tattoo… \n \nAll in all\, it’s a great festival\, that ticks many boxes. By leaving a little before the main band finished their set (don’t judge me) I was able to exit before the crowd and avoid being stuck in any traffic – which I did once before and it was terrible as there is only one way out… \nThe Déferlantes have definitely found their feet in terms of organisation and it is understandable that the festival has gained so much in popularity\, especially as the P-O don’t have many other options for attending live pop rock performances of contemporary music. I’ll be back again for closing night and let you know more.
