SUMMARY:Summer Saint Cyprien Style
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nSummer Saint Cyprien Style\nThe port\nMiles of golden sand\, a port full of sail and motor boats\, golf course\, great walking and cycling\, beautifully manicured Parc de la Prade with exercise circuit\, kiddie’s play area with lakes and fountains\, peaceful botanical garden with peacocks strutting their stuff… \nAdd to that plenty of ‘pieds-dans-l’eau’ restaurants\, bars\, casino\, disco\, quayside fish sold straight from the sea\, boat trips\, Aqualand\, and you can see why Saint Cyprien Port is very much a family resort. \n\nThe village\nAnd whilst it’s true that much of the summer action tends to take place around the port and beaches\, don’t dismiss the pleasant village\, a 10 minute drive from the lively beach resort. \nIt’s not ancient (‘tho it has an attractive church with 17th century bell tower and interesting ‘rentables’) or particularly beautiful – but it has some good restaurants and shops and a very original museum\, which is absolutely worth a visit. \n\nThe art\n“Les Collections de Saint Cyprien” Museum of Modern Art is based on the private collection of François Desnoyer and includes works by Maillol\, Dali\, Chagall and Desnoyer himself. \nThey often have daring\, sometimes shocking exhibitions\, mostly following (not surprisingly) a theme of ‘collections’. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Markets”]All year\nThursday morning – Place de la Mairie (village) \nSummer (June – September)\nTuesday and Friday evenings – beach \nSummer (July and August)\nSunday morning – Boulevard Maillol[/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nP-O Life’s pick of summer highlights\nFÊTE DE LA SAINT PIERRE – JUNE 28TH – 30TH \nEach year\, the town pays homage to the hardworking folk who make their living from the water\, and particularly those lost at sea. Bandas\, correfocs\, launching of Catalan barques\, castellers\, blessing of the boats and tasty and festive sardinade (sardines on the BBQ) followed by a spectacular pyrotechnic display. More info here. \n FESITVAL DU CERF VOLANT – 24TH & 25TH AUGUST \nMary Poppins would be in her element as the skies above Saint Cyprien fill with a spectacular range of multi coloured\, multi shaped kites …courtesy of the wind of course. Team flying\, artistic & giant inflatables…..endless fun for the whole family. More info here. \nFIREWORK DISPLAY\, DATE TBC \nOne of the most talked about firework displays in the region\, the ‘setting alight’ of the port and the firework extravaganza attract folk from far and wide. The display is preceded at 7pm by a ‘sardinade’ when local fishermen share their sardine catch in this traditional Catalan feast of grilled sardines\, bread and aioli. Plan ahead. Parking and traffic in and out take a bit of patience! \nLATE SUMMER DAYS – 20TH – 22ND SEPTEMBER \nThe sun is still shining\, the sea still sparkling\, the traffic has thinned out …and the roads of Saint Cyprien are taken over by the Chapter 66 Harley Davidson club. Mean machines\, leather-clad bikers from all over Europe. Information stands\, market stalls\, tattoos\, clothing\, jewellery\, accessories\, barbers\, motorbike exhibitions and demos\, parades\, and more. SUMMARY:CSF NEWSLETTER: AUGUST 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone\nThe days are already getting shorter! The early mornings are dark and I struggle to know whether it’s time to get up or not. The other evening\, I was well and truly cheated out of my sunbathing time when the sun disappeared behind next door’s roof at 6.15. The blackbird was happy though. He sat up in the oak tree and sang his heart out\, enjoying the cool of the evening. \nHave a look at our new-look CSF website. I’m ashamed to say I have only just discovered it. The link will bring up the home page where you’ll find a few very interesting articles and\, using the drop-downs\, you can easily navigate your way to national and local news. If you’ve got time\, why not give it a go. Put your alarm on though in case you get carried away! \n\nDrop Ins\n** Tombola Prizes\nFor our Fête Octobre Rose this year we will need prizes. If you have a bottle or an unwanted gift\, why not bring it along to us at one of our Drop Ins ** (see below for details) \n\n\nWednesday 7 August\, Pablo’s Bar\, Céret\, 10.30 \nCome along for coffee and chat. There will also be books of course and Céret is a great place to meet up with friends.\nMonday 19 August\, Café des Artistes\, Laroque des Albères\, 10.15 \nCome and have a browse through our large selection of paperbacks. Any books you bring along for exchange will be gratefully received. We can’t take hardbacks or non-fiction books I’m afraid. Bring a friend and stay for coffee.\nWednesday 21 August\, Villa Lafabrègue\, Prades \nNo Drop In this month\n\nLooking ahead\nOctober Rose – Les Jeudis Roses de la Clinique 2024\, Oct 3\, 10\, 17 & 24 : 11am – 4pm \n4 Thursdays of talks\, workshops and conferences about breast cancer \n🎗 To support Pink October\, the SOA (Soins d’Onco-Accompagnement) joins with PINK THURSDAYS in Perpignan at the Clinique St Pierre. \nSOA 66\, based in Perpignan\, offers support to people with cancer throughout the Pyrénées-Orientales. It gives supportive care to patients being treated in Oncology and/or Hematology in the form of alternative\, complementary care\, as well as financial support. The objective is to inform patients\, health professionals and visitors of the actions proposed by the association. \nA detailed programme will be available later on in the year. \nCSF will have a stand and we’ll be handing out leaflets and chatting mostly to medical people\, letting them know what CSF is about and how we can help English speaking patients. \nThank you to those who have volunteered to help out but we could still do with one or two others so if anyone can do an hour or two in the morning or afternoon\, we’d very much appreciate it. Please contact Phil O’Neill philomeneoneill@gmail.com \nSaturday 5 October\, Fête October Rose\, 12pm \nOur Autumn event this year will be a LUNCH AT THE DOMAINE MAS ALART. This vineyard\, set in the heart of the Roussillon plain\, has been there since 1897. \nAs you know\, the Octobre Rose campaign makes it possible to raise awareness and inform and encourage screening in the fight against breast cancer. As our event takes place at this particular time of year\, we thought it would be appropriate to name it Fête October Rose. \nThe afternoon will begin with a fizzy apéro and continue with lunch – Tapas followed by Paella and a dessert. Wine will be served of course and there will be music from our friends Zircon. Dancing will be encouraged. There will be prizes to be won on the Tombola** plus a surprise draw at the end. Fun for everyone. \nEntrance is by ticket only and the cost is 20€. Tickets will be on sale at the end of August. \n**Our Tombola table is always a great way of raising a bit of money. All the prizes are donated items and we are asking you\, if you can\, to please donate – bottles of wine or water\, jam or beer\, unwanted gifts or anything you think you yourself might like to win! Your donations will be gratefully received at any of our Drop Ins\, or just email me and I will arrange pick up. Thank you. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nPlease remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help\, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open.   We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer. There is also lots of information on our website.\n\n\n\n\n\nDiana Eastaff \n

SUMMARY:Fêtes Saint Vincent\, Collioure
DESCRIPTION:Fêtes Saint Vincent\, Collioure\n14th – 18 August 2024 \nThe traditional parade of the relics of Saint Vincent and the procession of Catalan boats delight visitors every year. With sardanes and coblas\, traditional “jocs del fissó” (games) on land and water\, parades\, fanfares and fireworks\,  this is a fun festival not to be missed. \nCollioure will be packed to the brim. Expect difficult parking and crowded streets. Check here for public transport in and out of the town and street closures to prevent high blood pressure and family fall-outs! \n \nCredit: Eva Hodneland\nThis festival was first celebrated in the year 1701\, on the day when the relics of St. Vincent\, the patron saint of Collioure\, were returned to the village. Numerous festive events have been preserved including\, for example\, games and competitions on the water\, such as the ‘ronde du clocher’ (swimming around the port and bay) and various nautical games. \nDemonstrations of Catalan fishing boats\, dances for everyone\, street parades\, concerts and live concerts and music. The Catalan Procession on the Sea is a highlight of the celebrations and the streets are filled with bodegas\, music\, dancing and all manner of entertainment as well as a grand firework display. \nAnd the best thing of all for those of us who are anti corrida……is that  the Collioure corrida is no more! Enjoy the festivities. No bulls will be slaughtered nearby. \nFULL PROGRAMME\n\n\n\n\nContact the Office de Tourisme for more info \nTel: 04 68 82 15 47\nEmail: contact@collioure.com\nWebsite\nFacebook \n\n\n\n\n  \n
