SUMMARY:From Dust to Light: A 40-Year Celebration at the Musée de Cerdagne
DESCRIPTION:If you are looking for something meaningful to do in the Pyrénées-Orientales this summer\, the Musée de Cerdagne has created an exhibition that quietly stays with you long after your visit. \nRunning from 9 May to 31 October 2026 at Cal Mateu\, “40 Years of Collections – From Dust to Light” celebrates four decades of preserving the everyday life\, traditions\, and memories of the Cerdagne region. It is not a grand\, showy exhibition. Instead\, it offers something far more powerful. It invites you to slow down and see the extraordinary in the ordinary. \n\nA collection built by people\, not just history\nWhat makes this exhibition special is how it came to exist. Over the past 40 years\, the collections of the Musée de Cerdagne have grown thanks to the generosity of local people. Objects have been donated by families\, residents\, and heritage professionals who recognised the value of keeping these pieces of the past alive. \nBehind every item is a story. A decision to pass something on rather than throw it away. A memory attached to a tool\, a piece of furniture\, or a simple household object. Together\, these contributions form a living archive of the region. \nWhen the everyday becomes heritage\nThis is not a museum of rare artefacts or priceless works of art. Here\, the focus is on the objects of daily life. Items that might once have been overlooked now take centre stage. \nA chamber pot tells the story of life before running water. A wash basin speaks of routines that required time\, effort\, and patience. A modest oil lamp becomes a reminder of long evenings spent in mountain homes before electricity was widespread. \nAs you move through the exhibition\, you begin to realise that nothing is insignificant. These objects do not just show how people lived. They help us understand how people adapted\, connected\, and made sense of their world. \nStep inside the past\nThe exhibition unfolds through carefully created scenes that bring the past to life. Rather than displaying objects behind glass in isolation\, the museum places them in context. \nYou might find yourself standing in a reconstructed bedroom\, where a traditional Catalan bed and a simple wooden wardrobe hint at the intimacy of life in the mountains. In another space\, a small hair salon reveals how these everyday places were once hubs of conversation and community. \nThere is something deeply familiar about these settings\, even if they belong to another time. They remind us that while tools and technologies change\, the rhythms of life often remain the same. \nBeliefs\, protection\, and the unseen world\nSome of the most intriguing objects in the exhibition sit somewhere between practicality and belief. \nRoof ornaments and espanta bruixes\, used to ward off evil spirits\, reflect a time when protecting the home went beyond physical structures. These items reveal a world where people lived in close relationship with their environment and the unseen forces they believed shaped their lives. \nThey offer a glimpse into a mindset that feels distant today\, yet still resonates in subtle ways. \nThe invisible work that keeps memory alive\nIt is easy to admire what is on display\, but this exhibition also draws attention to the work that happens behind the scenes. \nEvery object has been carefully catalogued\, studied\, restored\, and preserved. This is patient\, often unseen work carried out by people who understand that heritage is not just about the past. It is about what we choose to carry forward. \nBy revealing this process\, the museum adds another layer to the visitor experience. You begin to see not just the objects\, but the care and intention behind them. \nAn exhibition that invites you to take part\nWhat sets “From Dust to Light” apart is its participatory element. This is not a passive experience. \nAt the end of the exhibition\, visitors are invited to contribute to a shared timeline. You can leave a memory\, an idea\, or even suggest an object that you believe represents life today. \nIt raises a simple but thought-provoking question. What will people in 40 years consider worth preserving from our own lives? \nA place for all generations\nThe museum has also made a real effort to engage younger visitors. A dedicated children’s trail encourages them to explore through play\, observation\, and curiosity. \nIt transforms the museum from a place of quiet observation into a space of discovery\, where learning feels natural rather than imposed. \nRooted in Cerdagne\, open to everyone\nThe Musée de Cerdagne is deeply connected to its territory. Every object reflects the identity of the region\, its traditions\, and its way of life. \nYet you do not need to be local to appreciate it. Whether you live here or are visiting the Pyrénées-Orientales\, the exhibition offers something universal. It reminds us that history is not only found in major events\, but in the small details of everyday life. \nPlan your visit\nExhibition: 40 Years of Collections – From Dust to LightLocation: Musée de Cerdagne\, Cal MateuDates: 9 May to 31 October 2026 \nIf you are searching for things to do in the Pyrénées-Orientales this summer\, this exhibition offers a thoughtful and immersive experience. It is quiet\, reflective\, and unexpectedly moving. \nYou may arrive curious\, but you are likely to leave seeing the world around you a little differently. \n

SUMMARY:Maillol and Greece: Major 2026 Exhibition at the Musée Maillol\, Banyuls-sur-Mer
DESCRIPTION:Maillol and Greece: A Mediterranean Journey Through Art and Antiquity\nMusée Maillol\, Banyuls-sur-Mer\n26 June – 31 December 2026 \nThis summer\, the Musée Maillol in Banyuls-sur-Mer invites visitors to discover Maillol and Greece\, a major exhibition exploring the profound relationship between Aristide Maillol and the art of ancient Greece. \n \nRunning from 26 June to 31 December 2026\, the exhibition traces the influence of Greek antiquity on one of France’s most celebrated sculptors. Through a rich selection of sculptures\, paintings\, drawings\, prints\, photographs and archival documents\, visitors are taken on a Mediterranean journey in the footsteps of Maillol himself. \nAt the heart of the exhibition is the artist’s celebrated trip to Greece in 1908. Accompanied by his close friend and patron\, Count Harry Kessler\, Maillol travelled through the country between April and June of that year\, visiting some of the most important sites of classical civilisation. \nYet the exhibition reveals that Maillol’s fascination with Greece began long before he ever set foot there. During his formative years in Paris\, he immersed himself in the study of ancient art through the collections of the Louvre\, the École des Beaux-Arts and numerous books and journals devoted to antiquity. By the time he arrived in Greece at the age of 47\, his artistic vision had already been deeply shaped by classical ideals. \nMaillol Museum\, Banyuls-sur-Mer\nWhat struck Maillol most during his travels was the remarkable resemblance between Greece and his native Catalonia. He recognised familiar landscapes\, vegetation\, light and architecture\, recalling later that he felt as though he had returned to Banyuls-sur-Mer. The connection was so powerful that he often spent entire days alone in contemplation of the scenery. Significantly\, the only travel journal he ever kept was his notebook Notes from a Journey in Greece\, excerpts of which are presented in the exhibition. \nA key figure in this story is Count Harry Kessler\, the cosmopolitan collector\, writer and patron who first encountered Maillol in 1904. Their friendship proved decisive. Following an early trip together to London\, Maillol discovered the collections of the British Museum\, including the famous Parthenon Marbles\, an experience he later described as a breakthrough in his understanding of sculpture. \nFor Maillol\, the 1908 journey to Greece was less a revelation than a confirmation. In Greek sculpture he recognised the very principles that guided his own artistic search: clarity of form\, balance\, simplicity and harmony. He was particularly drawn to the archaic Greek art of the 6th century BC\, whose stylised and monumental forms echoed the qualities he admired in ancient Egyptian sculpture. \nThese ideals are reflected throughout his work. Like many leading artists of his generation—including Cézanne\, Gauguin and the Nabis—Maillol sought a return to essential forms and enduring values. The exhibition presents works created both before and after his Greek journey\, allowing visitors to trace the continuity of these influences throughout his career. \nMaillol and Greece offers not only an insight into the development of a major artist\, but also a fascinating exploration of how the ancient world continued to inspire modern creativity. Set against the backdrop of Banyuls-sur-Mer\, the town that shaped Maillol’s vision\, it promises to be one of the cultural highlights of 2026 in the region. \n\nVisitor Information\nMusée Maillol\nVallée de la Roume\n66650 Banyuls-sur-Mer \nExhibition dates: 26 June – 31 December 2026 \nOpening hours: Tuesday to Sunday\n10am–12pm and 2pm–6pm \nTelephone: +33 (0)4 68 88 57 11 \nEm \n\nUpdraftPlus\nail: museemaillolbanyuls@orange.fr \nFor further information\, visit the Musée Maillol in Banyuls-sur-Mer and discover the artistic dialogue between the Mediterranean landscapes of Catalonia and the timeless beauty of ancient Greece. \n

SUMMARY:Visa pour l'Image
DESCRIPTION:VISA pour l’Image\nAs always\, the 2026 VISA pour l’Image\, now into its 38th year\, promises to bear witness to the realities of our planet\, in all their diversity\, complexity\, horror and beauty. \nWith a new president\, Pierre Conte\, the association continues to defend photojournalism with the same determination and passion as always. \n \nPerpignan is once again the proud host of VISA pour l’Image from 29th August to 13th September 2026. \nFeaturing exhibitions by some of the world’s leading documentary photographers\, as well as up-and-coming professionals and skilled amateurs (through the “OFF” programme of fringe events in local cafés\, shops and other spaces)\, VISA is a well-established event on the end-of-summer calendar. \n© Brocante 66\nThe modern event is a far cry from the 1989 festival\, when exhibitions were without titles\, images without legends and viewing was warped by the halos of condensation behind the glass. \nBut in terms of ethos\, VISA stands staunchly firm: (re)discovering and promoting forgotten photographers\, honouring those killed\, imprisoned or silenced\, confirming new talent and providing a public arena for discussion on current\, but often difficult\, topics. \nAnd in a climate where public trust in the media is declining\, more than ever\, the festival represents a pillar of democracy\, decency and humanity. \n\n\n\n (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n \nOrganisation\n– Exhibitions will be open from 10am to 8pm everyday\, and entrance is free \n– Online exhibitions\, via the site \n– Evening projections of the year’s biggest news stories at the Campo Santo \n– Screenings begin with a chronological review of the year’s news stories\, followed by reports and features on society\, conflicts\, and stories\, both highly and little publicised. There will also be retrospectives of major events and figures. \n\n\n\n\nJames Balog – Photography of the Anthropocene: Kenny’s Arm. SUMMARY:FESTIVAL PELLICU-LIVE 2026
DESCRIPTION:FESTIVAL PELLICU-LIVE 2026 ….with Tony Goodman\nJumping at the chance to wander about Thuir’s Parc Palauda as it emerges after a long winter I attended the launch of this years Pellicu Live. A smorgasbord of a festival\, quite unique.  Films\, Michelin starred chefs and big bold live music. The films are a mix of comedy and drama\, the chef’s present dice and slice master classes with local ingredients and the play list is bass heavy\, perfect festival fare. \n \nThe running list includes Christophe Maé’s big vocals which deserves their own postcode\, Massbeat a local group oft seen at Perpignan’s Le Mediator with a horn section that punches out a 80’s Miami Vice type of vibe that would put a smile on Edward J Olmos’s dial and Paco & Nico an amped up classic guitar flamenco type duo which  brings the crowd back from the bar every time with their version of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck! That alone is worth the price of a day pass. \nGet there early to get close and personal with the chocolate box worthy Chateau Palauda. A  Queen Anne – Catalan red brick mash up nothing says substance better than well crafted  brickwork.  To quote L. Mies van der Rohe   “Architecture starts when you carefully put two bricks together. There it begins” \n  \nCredit: Tony Goodman\nThuir\, a case book example of what a vibrant regional market town looks like never disappoints whenever we visit. \nWhere\nParc Palauda in the grounds of the Chateau. \nWhen\nSeptember 3-5 \nHow\nCar\, get there early for a good parking space. \nBus route 530 will get you there but not home. \nWho\nMassbeat\, Nico and Paco\, Christophe Maé……. \nWhat\n40 euro for a day pass \nABOUT PALAUDA \n
