The End of the Line?

I don't know what happened yesterday. I tried to write a few words but it didn't work. So here we go again! As of yesterday this forum had been inactive for a fortnight. There are thousands of English speakers in the PO and yet here silence reigns supreme. Why? There is so much going on but not a di...

According to my OH, if you have a car with a towbar, you can hire a vehicle trailer. Or simply follow on behind with a tow rope and avoid the autoroutes.

It was before my time but my OH, who is looking over my shoulder as I write, is muttering
something about an item asking if restaurants would reduce prices when VAT was reduced.Says it produced mayhem.

I was informed by PM that it was not politically correct and asked to remove it. Which I did as I don't really want to offend anybody.

Re: Is data protection killing the web?

Is data protection killing the web? Maybe. But isn't it people who are doing the damage? Rapacious heads of companies like Facebook creating monsters that they cannot control. Or just people who can't control themselves. There's a current thread on here asking why is the forum so quiet. Recent event...

Re: Forum quiet

Yes, you are quite right. Public trust in social media is greatly diminished. Who really wants to share experiences or information when there is a real risk of verbal abuse in one form or another? Or unreasonable censorship? In the last few days we've had the calamity in Paris and a major disruption...

Interesting reportage on FR3 local news yesterday . Nice to see native English speakers from this neck of the woods speaking French. But then why not? They are now French citizens!

I hope they didn't recognise you from your photo (avatar)!!!!!!!! Probably not. But I discovered recently that I do have Caribbean ancestry. My cousin got involved in tracing our family tree and found out that our great grandfather was a quadroon. So there must be a bit of African in me! By the way...

This is a sort of postscript which Marina might like. We never did manage to make contact with Joe and Allison But I was standing in the queue at the pharmacy the other day and I heard the couple behind me speaking English. Looked around out of curiosity and saw a couple of faces I’d seen last year ...

I'm sorry it's a bit late but just to say that I appreciate Marina's comment. We all enjoy a pat on the back! Don't know about anybody else but we have loads of little tales of everyday life here in France. Since December we've had the saga of the hole in the road, why we did not eat our Christmas d...

Hi Guys. It's a bit of a long shot but I hope worth a try. The other day we had a spot of bother with the trailer in Bricodepot's car park at Claira. A couple passing by heard us talking and came to the rescue. They were called, we think, Joe and Allison and lived somewhere near Tuchan. Never really...

Hello Ages since I looked in on here. Seems like you've had a bit of a makeover. If I'd been writing the newsletter I'd probably have made the same choice. Can only agree. Driving could be fun on Saturday thanks to the gilets Jaunes. First tiny thought. How many of the people using the web-site don'...

T hat is, I suppose, the other depressing thing: the total unwillingness to consider that anyone else's experience has any relevance to France, or even to examine it (except as an example of Anglo-Saxon capitalist oppression to be rejected out of hand). Sadly the reverse is also true. For example the...

Did anybody else watch it on TF1 last night? Must be the best portrayal of the reality of domestic violence that I've ever seen on TV. It asked a lot of awkward questions about the way society works. Or doesn't.

There do seem to be a lot of Irish around. Most of those I have met have French spouses. There were a lot of Irishmen working on the TGV tunnel and I'm told many of them bought places down here.
