Re: French Will

You can speak to a notaire. You can have 1/2 free just for making enquiries. I’m sure that that’s basically right. But I found my notaire less than After reading about the terrible problems surviving partners have, when their other half passes away and their French house is then in probate for year...

Re: Let's Eat France

I haven’t bought a bottle of HP sauce in decades (through lack of opportunity rather than snobbery). But it used to have (maybe still does) a spiel on the label in French: “cette sauce de haute qualité agrémente tous vos plats etc etc”

But I’m the sort of saddo who used to read cereal packets.

Info about trains and boats is here https://www.seat61.com/dogs-by-train.htm Despite the title, it covers cats as well. Some of it seems pretty laborious, but Seat61 is the gold standard for griff like this in my experience. My apologies: I hadn’t picked up that you are ready to do the trip by car ...

I imagine that they are quite OK, of their kind. But there is a question how much “service” you want or need, given that you are paying for it (generously). It is a commonplace that investments for plain folk like us go sideways at best - which means that they go backwards over time once you have su...

Re: Wooden windows

If you are having anything else done by way of doors or windows or shutters, it might be worth just asking them. If I could be bothered, I would look out the people who did mine, but the choice would be no more scientific than it was last time, as well being seven years out of date. And the make-up ...

Yes, you are quite right. Public trust in social media is greatly diminished. Who really wants to share experiences or information when there is a real risk of verbal abuse in one form or another? Or unreasonable censorship? In the last few days we've had the calamity in Paris and a major disruptio...

The comments above illustrate very well that Remainers and Leavers each have rational arguments for holding the view that they do. Trying to genuinely understand why an intelligent reasonable person holds the opposite view to you can be a life enhancing experience. You may find it life-enhancing: I...

Re: Effects of Brexit in P.-O.

“Hegemon” is a word, though more in Greek than in everyday English. So it’s not surprising that Graham uses it inaccurately. It refers to domination by one state over another: one thing that the EU has saved us from, whatever vices it may have. Even adopting Graham’s sense, you might think that Stal...

Re: Dutch Speaking Lawyer

By way of afterthought, do you really want a lawyer or a notaire? The distinction doesn’t really exist where I come from (the U.K.), but in France it divides the lawyers who do essentially formal things (writing wills, conveying ownership of houses...) from those who do “contentious” work, or at lea...

Not terribly surprisingly, “there’s an app for that”. According the French notaires’ website, there are thirteen in France. The nearest seems to be at Flayosc in the Var, only a few hours drive away https://www.notaires.fr/fr/notaire/murielle-cyferman Whether she’s any good, who knows. Flayosc wasn’...

If you really want to throw your money away on “boutique” gin, you might need to go a bit further than La Jonquera, which (happily) is still a bit pile it high and sell it cheap. I missed the most obvious point. ceret2018 has indicated where they come from, but not whether they have an Intermarché in town, let alone one with a coin-counter. Céret might just as well be the dark side of the moon for most of us. For what it’s worth, I have one but not the other.

I would have guessed so too. But why guess when you can ask? Céret is not near enough to me to go there with a few kilos of change on spec, but it would be pleasant to have an extra excuse to visit in the cherry season.
