Applying for carte de sejour

Having been living permanently in France 5 years this week, we wrote to the Prefecture in Perpignan and have had a reply with requirements for our application for Cde S, appointment on 7 February 2019. Has anybody got previous recent experience of recent application? Do we need translation of anythi...

Anti calcium/Anti pollution filters

THanks one and all for helpful comments. We do get build up on kettle element occasionally but what has brought it to a 'head' is the suggestion that I have to turn hw tap below tank on and off 3 or 4 times a month! If it this that much of a problem then does it not suggest something needs doing sof...

We live in Oms, near Ceret. Number of plumbing features are affected by calcium levels - plumber recently advised to turn tap below hw balloon on and off 3 or 4 times a month to keep it operating! Another plumber has given us an estimate for fitting filter system after water meter on mains input. Ar...

Anybody any experience of opticians/costs? Luckily we live near Spanish border (La Jonquera Grand Commercial), and having got idea of costs from French optician in Le boulou, L'Optica in GC are much cheaper - are there any 'downsides' to using them (they appear to grasp French and even better a bit ...

Termination of annual tenancy - advice please

WE have the 'tenants from hell', Huissier has served avis de partir for 24 October, but we anticipate they will hang on in until 1 November for 6 months 'amnesty'. Initial advice was we should take a gendarme on 24 the to witness/assist in removal, they say 'no' go to huissier, they say, nobody come...

Social charges on pensions/rental income

I recall that the 'system' of charging these 'charges' is being (or has) changed so that UK S1 form holders can no longer be exempt/reclaim. Does this change relate to tax returns for 2015 ie demands for payment now being received, or from next year's returns ie for 2016 income? I was successful in ...

We are getting a new puppy next week, have had up to 16 pedigree cats in UK before move here Sept 2013, sadly reduced now to 10 but they are not insured as Pet Plan would not maintain cover. Hi

Trivial it may seem, but has anyone tried/achieved the above? When searching on Google.uk it opens up various info sites but for UK iTunes, when tried on French iTunes (eg right click on music title, open up burn CD) no such step available. Could just be me (!) but can't fathom how to do it!!

Try auction sites on Anyvan (But we had bad experience moving complete household down from Bury last year) or Shipley (suggest better option). You submit details of items to be transported, original address and destination and then receive bids.
