Re: Items for Charity

Thanks for the suggestion Sue but I’m not on Facebook and I’m a bit wary of social media. Thank you Florence for your ideas. I was aware of Emmaus and I know where it is on the way to Perpignan but as I lost my mum to cancer ,I have always tried to support cancer fundraising and just wondered if the...

Items for Charity

Hi, I have a vast quantity of good quality second hand clothes and a mountain of English paperbacks, and I was wondering if there was a cancer charity who would be interested in selling them to raise money . I know there is a fete in St Jean pla des Corts at Christmas but I’m not sure if there are c...

Carcassone Airport

Hi, there are only seats and vending machines once you get through security at Carcassone, so you would probably find it easier to wait in the cafe. The car hire is now across the road and there is an underpass with lifts. Hopes this helps.

Marmalade

After being out of stock for 2 weeks ( bearing in mind that the season is very short) my Sainsburys informed me that Seville oranges are in short supply due to the bad weather in Spain. They had 1 box in last week and these were all pre ordered - yes I did manage to order some and the marmalade is b...

Marmalade

I make marmalade every year and use 2lb of Seville oranges,1 lemon 4lb sugar and 4 pints of water. It needs to simmer for about 2 hours and then a fast boil for about 15 mins to make a'set'.I find those quantities work every time.

Attack of Mosquitoes

Just like you we have been coming to the region for years and have never been bitten as often as we have this year. After scratching endlessly, I resorted to searching in the bathroom cabinet and unearthed a packet of Piriteeze with an expiry date of 2008!

We have been to La Bartavelle and totally agree that the food is superb and clearly prepared and served by a couple who are passionate about their ingredients; everything on the plate is packed with intense flavour. It is definitely one of our favourites.

Restaurant at Valmy

We have just tried the new restaurant at Valmy and whether our expectations were too high I'm not sure, but we found the food disappointingly average. The view was spectacular and the wines pleasant but the food lacked flavour and flair. The service was polite and pleasant and well timed. The terrac...

My son came off his bike and broke his arm badly a few years ago and was taken to the clinic in Ceret . St Jean Pla De Corts works for us. The bar- restaurant gets busier in the summer but you are away from the crowds on the coast, have easy access to the mountains and all the shops are open during the winter.

There is a beach which is further on from Llanca; I think it is called Porto de Silva. Its a wide stretch of sand and the sea is very shallow for quite a distance which is brilliant if your children are very young. It is patrolled by lifeguards and if I remember rightly there is a playground either ...
