For those that haven't yet discovered it there's is an absolutely fantastic mapping app for Apple IOS. It goes by the curious name of iPhiGenie. All the French and Spanish IGN maps right down to 1:25 000 are displayed crisply and sharply on a retina screen. A layering option allows you to fade between two different map sources - eg satellite image versus topgraphy. Or, if you're trekking the GR11, French and Spanish maps.
The interface is very idiosynchratic but once you get the hang of it, it's an incredibly useful tool for the outdoors.
