Bins - what do the colours signify if anything?

Post by Neil & Sue »

Hi

We dont have door to door refuse pick up in our village (which I expect is the same for many of you) - so we carry our rubbish up to the communal poubelles. It's only just on our last trip that I noticed the 3 bins each had a different colour lid - one green, one brown, one black.

Do these colours signify anything?

Thanks

In the UK:

Green: Paper, cardboard, plastic, tins, glass

Brown: Garden waste

Black: Household waste, excluding both the above.

(Altho some councils do vary)

I would pressume it's the same in France.

Bleu : Verre et métaux
Jaune : Bouteilles en plastique
Noir : Déchets organiques
Rouge : Déchets non recyclables

BUT - not everywhere. In the PO we used to have only green and yellow lids (for collection) same as we do here in Aude. yellow = recyclables and green - strangely enough = non-recyclables. The only public ones in our village are for glass and one for the Red Cross.

Best to contact the mairie to be sure!

Well, it sure doesn't use the same colours as the UK. Depending on the village, it changes from place to place.

In Sorede, there's only two types. The yellow bins are for "Tri" materials like plastics, carton, metals like cokes, and papers. These are recycle prodducts.

The brown bins are for the rest of the materials.

Of course there's a special bin for bottles.

I've seen different colours in other villages, so there's no specific rules for France.

the ones nearby in Amelie have got helpful pictures stuck on them indicating what goes where , so I've never bothered about the colour!

Why not lift the lid and see what's inside each one !

Everywhere I've seen communal poubelle in the P-O it is the yellow lid for recycling (accepted prodcuts often listed on the underside) and green lids for the rest (bagged up).
