Where do we take stuff like electrical things or car brake pads?

I'm pretty sure you can take them to your nearest déchèterie, using the benne labeled 'tous venants'. If you're not sure, then show the chappie what you are chucking, and he will tell you (one way or the other!!!)

I suppose it depends what you mean by "electrical things" cufc. As Sue says,the dechetterie accepts most things,and at the Céret one there is a special corner for old fridges,dishwashers,tellies etc.

Just to remind that if you buy "electroménager" of any kind in France, the shop is obliged to take back the old one in exchange (the reason for the "eco" charge included in all such prices these days).

For example, buy a Fridge in Darty and they'll take your old one back (free) when they deliver the new one.

I had a bucket of lead paint dust to dispose of.

I needed a receipt to say that I disposed of it according to the regs. My Mairie phoned the prefecture and was able to tell me where to take it, and the name of the person who would sign the declaration.
