French postage stamps

Post by Allan »

How can you tell one postage stamp from another? There appears to be no value on them or description of what they are for.

Whenever I buy stamps I normally buy a few extras but I can't tell the value of any of them.

The french post office has a web site in English but too many of the links don't work to make it useful.

I have some blue stamps which I know are 75c for air mail, some red ones which I know are for internal post but have no idea of their value, and some with christmas pictures which I presume work for internal post. It is however quite confusing

Yes, it is difficult.

The blue ones are for letters "prioritaire" of up to 20g (which isn't much, an envelope and one or two sheets of A4) for destinations in the EU and Switzerland.

Those for internal letter post are usually marked "Letters prioritaire 20g" or unmarked (red?) for economique.

Others usually are marked with the value.

A guide to the tarrifs is available here:
