But the decision has been made by the British Government and we shall have to see the details of how the French will respond.

My daughter and her family, who have been staying in our house in PV (in a part of France where there have, of course, been very few cases) have managed to change flights (at a cost) and are returning home a week early so that the children will be out of quarantine by the start of the new school term. She works in the NHS which will be deprived of a highly skilled front-line worker for a week.

We have flights booked for September and will wait to see the French response before deciding on our visit.

There might have been very few cases in the PO but currently the coastal area is packed with visitors from all regions of France so we must all take care.

My understanding is that the UK authorities have no system for monitoring those concerned once they have entered the UK. There will be those that comply. And those that don't.

My only concern is that I still have some family living in the UK. If there was a real emergency I could not return and help.

My daughter has now arrived in the UK, on a flight with lots of empty seats. She and her family will now quarantine.

Since the start of the pandemic we have had to develop coping strategies and quite drastically alter our lifestyle. Nowadays we have very limited social contact. There is a very small core of people we have known for a long time and trust implicitly. We are a couple and that helps. Several women we know live alone and it is much more difficult for them.

Former everyday tasks take on a whole new dimension. Like going shopping. Once upon a time we could hop on a plane and visit our family. No longer possible. Sure we can talk on the phone or the internet. But if there is a real problem we can no longer go over and lend a hand.

But we remain positive. A good friend from Canada has a property in the Aude and has asked us to keep an eye on it. In fact he has urged us to go and stay there whenever we like. He feels more comfortable that the property is regularly occupied and thus less at risk of the attentions of vandals or petty criminals. For us having a change of scenery is a real tonic.

I suspect that many more people read this forum than take part. Perhaps now is a good time to break the silence and share tips and experiences?
