Exchanging foreign bank notes

I have some Dubai banknotes, about 1000 euros worth. Can I just take them into my bank in Ceret and change them into euros? I know that the laws on cash transactions have been tightened up.

Thanks.

Answering my own question, it seems French banks don't handle most foreign currency any more. My bank manager said I would have to go to the bureau de change in Perpignan. I may try a bank in Figueras as that is easier for me.

Just to complete the information. The bureau de change in Perpignan was a complete waste of time. They only handle a few currencies. In the end I went to Barcelona Airport and got hassle free service.
