Salt peter

Post by Sue »

Does anyone know where I can buy salt peter. I only want a very small amount, couple teaspoons. I have a large piece of brisket which I want to turn into salt beef.

I would expect that you can buy salt peter at the pharmacy. Or, at least in Sweden you can. We used this for something a few years back.

Here's the translation: 1) salpêtre, 2) nitrate de potassium [MED]

Just don't ask for sulphur and charcoal at the same time. Mixed with saltpeter they make gunpowder.

I think you will find that Sodium Nitrate is used nowadays for salt beef.

How about this: http://www.tompress.com/A-383-salpetre-250-g.aspx
Not sure if they sell sulphur and charcoal though!
