Two choices.
Use your UK supplier's roaming service. Vodophone is not bad.
Get a cheap RED contract from SFR for about 5€ a month.

For £27 per month with Three in the UK (sim only) I get unlimited minutes, texts and data plus 4G - AND one can use it in France, Spain and many other countries at absolutely no extra cost.
There is small print though. It's designed for UK people not residents abroad so if you use it for longer than a month more than twice a year they can terminate the contract.
For my current situation as a frequent visitor it's perfect.
There are pay-as-you-go options too.
