Bamboo

Is there one out there who has bought bamboo ( clumping sort ) locally. If so please would you let me know where you purchased this bamboo.
It's available in most garden centres. I wanted some myself but was amazed at the price. So being a cheapskate I've just brought out a number of bits of root in my hand-luggage from a friend's garden in the UK and have potted them up here. They're very hardy so should survive well.
If you do find a way of obtaining some roots please be aware that you'll need a saw to cut them, not just secateurs. They're tougher than steel.
