Garden knowledge?

Post by Richard and Sharon »

We are lucky to have inherited a delightful bit of garden when we bought our house. It has been neglected for a while, but has various interesting green and flowery things (many of which are probably weeds). There are also a few brown twiggy things, some of which show slight indications of life.

Our objective is to revive the garden, making it attractive and easily manageable. Rather than rip the good stuff out, I have been trying to identify plants vs weeds for the past few months, but without much success.

Conclusion, we need some expert help! This could come in one of two forms:
1) A knowledgeable amateur who can have a look and point us in the right direction (happy to pay expenses)
2) A professional who will help us rather than just generate work for themselves. Someone who can identify and advise what is worth keeping and then do some tidying and new planting. Whilst it obviously has to be financially worth the professionals time initially, we can't afford a regular gardener for the longer term. Also, we have the time and inclination to enjoy looking after the garden ourselves, once we know what we are doing. To that end, we would be looking for maintenance advice from the professional, rather than a maintenance proposal.

Any offers/recommendations/suggestions?
