ROSES

Post by Carmen »

I'm looking to find rose bushes to plant that really smell "roses" !! I know the french have roses named Louis de Funes and Fernadal, but I can't seem to find them or any other rose bushes with "a smell". Can anyone help me?

Here's one
http://www.plantes-et-jardins.com/catal ... iations=28
Une rose hors du commun par la plénitude de ses formes, son parfum puissant et son riche coloris velours pourpre irisé de cramoisi avec des reflets noirs bleutés.

We used to buy most of our plants at Gabiani
Pépinières Gabiani
164 rte Bompas 66000 PERPIGNAN
.04 68 52 37 74
fax : .04 68 52 26 73

Near the Palais des Expositions - just off the Rond-point du Mas Donat turning onto the road towards Bompas.. about 30 meters on the right!

We get most of our plants/bushes from Spain,as we find the quality higher and prices more competitive than most French garden places.

There were some lovely sweet-smelling roses at Merca Jardi,on the main Figueras to Roses dual carriageway when we went there last week.

Yes, tomorrow (always the 2nd Sunday in May)

Try a steamer trip with Mothers' Day (Muttertag) brunch around the Lake of Zürich on board the "Ledischiff"!
http://www.ledischiff.ch/pdf/Muttertags ... erisee.pdf
The Ledischiff "Stäfa"
http://www.ledischiff.ch/img_img/events ... _start.jpg

Nice memories!!

By the way - if you ever are around that lake - and you love roses - visit Rapperswil "Town of Roses"!!
http://www.rapperswil.ch/Rosengaerten.1324.0.html
Click on each picture for an eyefull!! Sorry the site in English is underconstruction!! Rapperswil is definitely the prettiest town on the lake - worth visiting the castle with its deer garden and the little harbour full of shady trees, flowers and bistros - and, of course, its famous rose garden!!

By the way, the "Blindenrosengarten" or "rose garden for the blind" was conceived for blind people - the roses are famous for their perfumes!
Dank der geheizten Tiefgarage erlebt der Garten praktisch keinen Winter und damit auch keinen Frost.
Thanks to the heated underground garage (upon which the garden is built!!!) the garden experiences practically no winter nor frost!
1522 Pflanzen von 75 Duftsorten, die alle mit der Blindenschrift (Braille) und Normalschrift beschildert sind.
1522 plants with 75 assorted perfumes which are all labelled in Braille and normal lettering.

(Having written all that I will definitely have to go back for a visit with Natalie and Tanya to cure my bout of nostalgia both for the country and their special ways of doing things - but NOT for the climate, nor to re-live there permanently!!!! Annaïck and I love where we are now!)

If it's convenient, you could try Roses du Canigou. It's a large rose farm further down from us on Traverse de Thuir, just of the main road that runs from the N9 to Thuir.

I am looking for a rose named Tilly, if anyone ever comes across one, can you let me know, its in memory of our Weimeraner who we lost in January. I have looked at having one named after her.

Low-cost version?
http://www.redsave.com/products/Name-A- ... =name+rose
Mid-range version
http://www.name-your-own-rose.co.uk/prices.php
Seems this is big business in the UK?
http://interrose.co.uk/name_a_rose.shtml

I searched all over and can't find any mention of an existing rose (officially) called Tilly!
Up to you or someone to name it - but seems.. for a price!!!

PS seems some lady called Rose Tilly is (was) concerned about radiation in smoke detectors... er.. what's next???

Roger, over and out!
