Dog agility club

Post by Sus »

Hi,
is anybody familiar with either the ECAR cub in Elne or Club AOC in Laroque des Alberes and can recommend either?

We are looking for a regular puppy training class and a club for agility/obedience, any other recommendations would also be appreciated

Thanks!

We took ours to Laroque and were pretty happy with it all - though not cheap!

Hi yes I have been to both and know them both well.

Laroque no longer do proper agility, they only do a tiny bit, their main focus now is obedience and searching (like search and rescue). Sandra Berdu runs it, French woman, very nice but won't suit you if your main drive is agility.
As far as I know they still do their puppy class. Last time I was with laroque a years subs was around €300.

ECAR in Elne, run by Jackie and Alan (husband and wife) do obedience, agility and flyball as their main discipline. They also have more than one agility class...they do starter, intermediate/fun and competition and then they also have team meets. They run their own agility competitions twice a year at the club (oct and April normally). Nice club, Marion (one of the agility instructors) speaks English if needed. They do weds afternoon 3pm, Weds Eve 7:30pm and sat morning at 9:30am for starter and intermediate/fun agility classes.
They also have puppy / adolescent classes at the same times. Last subs I paid (Jan time) they were around €180 for the year.

Note : all clubs will insist you have basic training in place and you do obedience first to show you can control your dog and be allowed to do agility. You also won't be able to do intermediate agility and a proper class until your dog is around 12 months.

I also have a friend and I who do some fun and informal training and some agility (not to club standard) once a week (re starting mid / late sept) in brouilla if you fancy trying it PM me.

Any more questions just drop me a line.

Hi, thanks very much for the great info. We were planning on visiting both clubs and this is a great help.
CPB, thanks of the detailed info, we are not getting our pup till November, just borne, and will go firstly to puppy/obedience classes, and was then looking to continue with the same club with agility, so Elne sounds the better choice. Once he is a bit older, I would love to meet up for some more informal training.
Thanks

To finish the thread, we have joined the ECAR club in Elne. Jackie and Alan who run the club are very friendly and knowledgable, so are the other trainers.
We are learning a lot from each class. I am taking our puppy to the puppy class for basic obedience, and as we live in a very rural area, it also helps us for socialisation as he can play with puppies of his age and gets used to people and other noises.

CPB, thanks again for the recommendation, the club is great. Please feel free to say hello, I will be at the class on Wed pm and Sat am and have a German Shepherd.

Hi,

How old is your puppy? Just to give me an idea of who to say hi to! I'm normally there Wednesday evenings and occasional Saturday mornings, youll see me in /around the dog agility area with either a small black lab or a big hairy bouvier des Flanders.
Or ask Jackie and Alan if I'm there, they know me and my 'special french' haha

Miro is 3 months, so he will be just under 4 months when the classes restart in Jan - and probably doubled in size again! We are always in the puppy enclosure, there are 4-5 other regulars for this class. I can't go Wed nights but will have a look out for you on Saturdays.

My puppy hasn't trained anywhere but he is obedient. He is only disobedient when I take him to the bath.
