Repatriation insurance

Post by alan »

Does anyone have any further information on this "requirement" please?

https://www.connexionfrance.com/French- ... ing-France

Is there a theoretical requirement which is not enforced? It seems in any event that no insurance product exists.

We have certainly been out with a friend in the past who has a US passport and she was not asked to provide any proof of insurance as far as we can recall.

As far as I can see, having done a bit of research:

“Foreign travellers visiting Europe who enjoy visa-free travel to the Schengen zone can get their preferred travel insurance policy if they want to and while it is highly recommended – they are not required to”. See https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/scheng ... insurance/

“British citizens do not require a visa if spending up to 90 days over a 180 days period in the Schengen area.  You may however be asked like any other third country nationals to justify your travel by the Immigration Officer (means of living, address of stay, medical travel insurance…)”. See https://france-visas.gouv.fr/web/france ... e%E2%80%A6)

So no repatriation insurance required for short stays but note, somewhat ominously, the Immigration Officer may ask for “medical travel insurance” information.
