Places to stay on route?

Post by Kathy »

Friends of ours are travelling from Calais to Perpignan via Bordeaux and want to return up the eastern side of the country. Could anyone recomend any good quality places to stay on route. We always do a non stop journey so have no idea where to stop. They intend to do 3 or even 4 stops both ways and want to enjoy other parts of France.

If your friend is passing through Dijon, here's a good stop.

This stop is a much more than just a bed for the evening. Coco can show you a lot about Dijon and help you in many ways.

Her web site shows a lot about Dijon, so maybe it will give your friends a target at other "Stops" along their route.

Depends when they do this. Alsace countryside and small villages - like Riquewir (famous for it's wines
http://www.ac-nancy-metz.fr/ia54/magnie ... quewir.htm )
- is very nice at certain times of the year (spring and autumn) - but rather deadly at this moment.
Christmas market in Strasbourg is very special. Some photos from 2006

but not easy for short notice accommodation!

If it would happen to be end February, then don't miss the "Basler Fasznacht" (Carnival of Basel) right on the French/Swiss border after Mulhouse.
I know it well - my first wife was from Basel (Basle). Very special!!

Wiki gives a good insight

and for accommodation

Depending what time they arrive or depart, there is this one in Boulogne-sur-Mer; I think you can also get a ferry into Boulogne, fast one , & if you book through them you get a discount I think; You will have to look this up.

The owners used to live in Perpignan!!
