In my question I mean
Beer........France/Spain about equal
Wine.......Spain slightly cheaper, but not for "quality" wines
Fizz.....Spain a LOT cheaper
Martini etc.....not much in it,but Spain cheaper
Spirits ..... Spain a LOT cheaper.

If you ever come across a Mercadona supermarket in Spain - Figueres perhaps - then try their Comportillo rioja range.
The red comes either in a blue top or a black one, the latter is oaky(oakey? oakie? well it is ok anyway), the former is a lighter wine altogether.
We love both and they are very reasonably priced.
They also do a white and a rose which mr. polremy isn't so keen on.
The good news is that, although a lot of food and drink tends to be more expensive here in Tenerife than in mainland Spain, the wine in Mercadona is exactly the same price.
ps. Saw a large van today and, written on the side in large letters, was

I kid you not.
Wish I'd had my camera.
