Procedure for selling a car privately

Post by Julia »

Hello, could anyone let me know what the procedure is for selling a car privately here. We are trying to find a buyer for ours but when we do, we are not sure what we have to do next. In the UK, one simply fills in a section on the vehicle registration document and both parties advise the DVLA accordingly. We have no idea how it works here and, despite a bit of research, I can't find much info about what each party's obligations are. I am sure it probably involves a huge amount of paperwork but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Julia

I did sell a car privately once - in 1997 so I've forgotten the datails and probably obsolete now!
Anyway, here's quite a good link which details the steps needed:
http://www.justlanded.com/english/Franc ... ling-a-car
Here's another:
http://poitoucharentes.angloinfo.com/co ... egrise.asp
(scroll down to How to Sell a Used Car)

Between those two you should be OK for information!!

I am afraid our car isn't small! It's advertised on the forum in the For Sale section. It's a six seater Honda FRV and is just less than two years old. Do consider it though..... it's a great car....!! Julia
