Gecko restaurant near Thuir

Having heard about this new place from some friends we went last night with a mixed group of 5 adults and 4 kids.

It is located on the road from Camelas to Millas.

The setting is Catalan chic in the walled courtyard of an old Mas with a swimming pool to one side (don't know whether this is ever used by diners).

The menu is one of those mix-n-match fixed price ones. Evening prices are 9€ for starters and 16€ for mains.

The cuisine is Catalan fusion. i.e. typical local dishes with a bit of a twist. For example we had beef in a cream and Bhyrr sauce, Perillade of fish and seafood, Calamares and Gambas, Carpacchio of beef. All were made from good local ingredients (not Metro-style), well prepared and nicely presented. The children's menu is steak frites, which was consumed by all.

All in all I would say this place is worth a visit. The setting is lovely, the dishes varied and tasty. The service is friendly and helpful if a little slow.

A nice addition to the area.
