I've just made this tarte from the recipe from Kate in "La Maison de l'amande". It looks good, and smells good. Our guests will get a slice this evening, so there will be the proof of the pudding.

It's a recipe that Kate put at the end of this article in 'Latest Articles' .

Everyone thought it was delicious, and that includes me, so it must have been good. Very easy recipe.

Thanks Kate and Olivier x

But doesnt Amandine Tarte sound so much more delicious than Bakewell Tart!

No. Bakewell tart has to have icing sugar topping and a cherry on top, but the rest of the recipe is righ up my street, a must try indeed

We lived in Bakewell from 1976 to 2006, so know a bit about Bakewell Pudding (not tart, which is a Mr Kipling concoction). Here is a little Wikipedia description of Bakewell Pudding

"Bakewell pudding is an English dessert commonly consisting of a flaky pastry base with a layer of sieved jam, topped with an egg and almond paste filling. There are numerous variations and several bakeries each claim to hold the original recipe. The pudding originates from the Derbyshire town of Bakewell"

This is about accurate. A real Bakewell Pudding tastes of almonds, but is quite different from Tarte Amandine, because there is no flaky pastry in the latter, and the filling in a Bakewell Pudding is richer and softer. The icing and cherry on the top is a poor copy, and is called Bakewell tart.

A friend of mine in Bakewell wrote a play called "Puddings, not tarts", which was produced and performed by a local drama group. Of course, there will
always be jokes about the tarts, but the real McCoy is a pudding. Trust me.

Made this recipe today (there's half left Kate if you want to call round). I still hadnt bought the almond essence but in its place use 2 1/2 tsp Amaretto. Worked really well. Not so almondy but suited my and hubby's palette well.
