HOW do you buy a car in France?

We need to purchase a modest voiture for our French odessy but I'm completely stumped on the question of How exactly do you transfer money from your own account to the dealers. Our bank imposes a max of 3000 euros a month transfer via card. Apparently this not unusual for French banks.
So, does this mean that you have to write a paper cheque and wait a week, or is there a better way?

Most French banks but a limit on transfers.
Whenever I have bought cars, I just phoned the bank and told them who to pay and how much, then confirmed it with an email. They then phoned the car dealer for their bank details and arranged the payment.
The more traditional way is to ask your bank for a bank cheque for the required amount. Garages normally accept these without waiting for them to clear
