It depends on whether this will be your only trip in the next year Neil/Gina. You can buy single trip insurance from whoever you booked the trip with (usually from Elvia etc),and cover is pretty much standard and what you'd expect.
But it's surprisingly difficult to get annual cover in France. The French, because they do not travel abroad as much as us Brits,do not need such things,so you can't really buy it from Travel/Insurance agents.but Europ Assistance do one for French residents . We pay 164€ per annum for full cover worldwide for the two of us,which compares favourably with the cover we used to get in the UK.

I can personally recommend Elvia (Mondial if you are resident in France)
See the link for background.

This is also recommended by practically all European "national" airlines.
We used them in Swissair and during the 23 years I worked in Zurich, I don't rememember any complaints..

When I was buying Rog,I did look at Mondial, and it's true the cover is very good, but for the average person ,doing average things, perhaps it's TOO good, and that's reflected in the price. They cover all sorts of activities that there was not a cat in hell's chance of me ever doing!
But I can see why airlines etc recommend them....

John, there's another illusion gone - I thought you were a kind of semi-retired James Bond adventure traveller type - you know - stuff like treks in the High Atlas by Camel - or forays over the Khyber Pass - suitably eqipped and armed to repel bandits and impress the locals!! Shame, really!john wrote:They cover all sorts of activities that there was not a cat in hell's chance of me ever doing!

Sorry, this may be a bit late for your needs, but have you checked your household insurance?
I notice that you are resident in France, as am I. I have just inquired with my insurer about taking out travel insurance and, under my domestic insurance policy, I am already covered for up to three months every year.
My policy is with Groupama - but Axa do the same, apparently.
