Cafe L'Embuscade, Trouillas

Post by Cellier Trouillas »

Five of us from work went here for lunch today. What a pleasant surprise!

It's a bit transport caff inside but we received a warm welcome.

The menu of the day was Salade Compose or Oeufs Mimosa, followed by Seiche a la planxa or Saute de Dinde sauce moutarde, followed by home made cherry tart. (1/4 pichet of wine and water are included in the menu of the day.)

We had two aperos each, then three of us went for the menu and the two chaps chose the oeufs mimosa starter then went for the brochettes off of the normal menu. Four brochettes each! ( You get the choice of just meat or a mixture of meat and offal - they were served with a large portion of chips.) We all rounded off with cherry tart and coffee.

Price was 18€20 each (we divided the bill equally. If you just go for the menu of the day, without apero and coffee, it's 13€)

Really good food. Far too much main course!! And lovely home made dessert.

We're thinking of going back on a more regular basis, we enjoyed it so much!

It's not haute cuisine and it's not a posh resto, but if you want good, honest food in a clean environment, you'd be hard pressed to find better local to Trouillas.

Well, to be strictly accurate, I had a demi and then a Vichy.

We are all at work this afternoon!

Well, they do work in a Cellier!!

Anyone smells booze they will think it's the stuff on sale.

"never trust a thin chef" comes to mind - there must be a cellier's equivalent.

To be honest I've not eaten there for about 2 years. The food was always plentiful but slightly mad.

The last time I went we had a tinned sardine with rice and peas, followed by a red pepper stuffed with the same rice as the main, with some bizarre
thing like Russian Salad on the side.

It's a friendly bar and the coffee has always been nop notch.

Spent many an evening in there watching Rugby and Football games.

For ages I thought the guys who ran it were brothers but their barman explained that they were "Just Catalan and therefore all look the same"
