larvae on mandarin tree

Post by sue and paul »

Our 4 yr old mandarin tree has got small white larvae on it - both on the wood and the leaves. They are fluffy, powdery even, though the surface looks a bit ridged. Inside they are yellow, like the yolk of an egg. Are they caterpillar larvae, or something harder to get rid off? Hope someone knows, thanks

Isn't it good that Roger is back. This is just his kind of question. I expect there will be a charming close up photo of a bug-eyed monster and an explanation along shortly.

Most likely "mealybugs" if they look like this

Thanks, Rog, that's the blighter! I thought it was the larva I was looking at, as they don't move (sessile?). Anyway the treatment I have bought says it will deal with them, so fingers crossed. If you're passing at the right time, there's a mandarin in it for you!!
