Girona hoping for 3 million passengers, Perpignan for 500,000.
The year 2012 began on a positive note for both Girona and Perpignan airports, with the announcement of a major investment in Roussillon the return of Ryanair to Girona. Forty eight 48 destinations should be available in March, rising to 59 in June. New destinations are Ibiza from March 25, with four flights per week, Poitiers, Aarhus (Denmark), Bydgoszcz, Gdansk and Krakow (Poland), Cagliari (Sardinia), Cork and Knock (Ireland), Doncaster (England) Düsseldorf (Germany), Malmo, Stockholm and Skelleftea (Sweden), Nador (Morocco), Perugia (Italy), Thessaloniki (Greece) and Turku (Finland). The AGI (a group made up of the government of Catalonia, the town hall, and the Chamber of Commerce of Girona) has agree an annual budget of 7.5 million euros until 2017 to keep Ryanair at Girona, retaining and creating 3000 jobs for the region.
Perpignan airport, now called ‘Sud de France de Perpignan-Rivesaltes’ is hoping for 500,000 passengers this year, after having totaled 366,000 in 2011. According to a report of 9 January, managed by Veolia, will receive an investment from 2012 to 2014 of € 45 million, to improve facilities and conditions and allow the airport to land large aircraft.
