Le Moine –  filmed in the P-O

Le Moine

This adaptation of the famous Gothic novel by Matthew G. Lewis, ‘The Monk, a romance’ published in 1796,  tells the tragic story of Brother Ambrosio in Catholic Spain in the seventeenth century.

Abandoned at birth at the gates of the convent of the Capuchins, Ambrosio is raised by the brothers to be a priest,  admired and respected for his enthusiasm and conviction, feared for his intransigence.

He believes himself strong and immune to temptation until the arrival of a mysterious student nun shakes his convictions and leads him into a downward spiral of sin, taking him deeper and deeper……

The film was shot  in June 2010 in Narbonne (Fontfroide Abbey, Canal de la Robine) and Le Perthus (Fort de Bellegarde), with the participation of technicians, actors and extras from the region, and supported by funding from the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
