Three container ships this week in Port-Vendres
....and only Wednesday. It's always been part of the appeal of the place for me that it still does proper things. But it has been pretty marginal for a while: one small box ship a week on a circuit from here to west Africa. There have occasionally been two a week. And the odd small cruise ship.
Since a few weeks ago there have consistently been two, and this week three. So what's going on? I have always understood (probably wrongly) that the northbound traffic is mostly pineapples from the Côte d'Ivoire, but our appetite for them can't have trebled. Perhaps they have developed a side line in Xmas trees or bûches de Noel.
Welcome in any event, at least at my end of town: they do tend to be quite noisy, even in port.
