Fete de l’Ours – Bear Festival, Prats de Mollo

During February, two events traditionally take place at Prats, delighting all who attend, and causing visitors to return year after year: la fête de l'ours (the day of the bear) and ‘Carnaval'.

The traditional Calcotada in Cerbère will take place on Sunday 24th February, from 11.30am, when you can down as many of these tasty onions as your tummy will allow, dipped in sauces and usually served up with BBQ, live music, sardanes

Carnival, Prats-de-Mollo

Dressed in white, covered in flour, and equipped with a lit candle, participants dance round in a circle and try to set the person in front alight! The 'le porteur du balai' is on hand to put any unfortunates out with his broom! ( Tio means log and is actually represented by a roll of paper stuck on the back of each dancer which is set alight rather than the whole person!!)

Carnaval Amélie les Bains

The carnaval in Amélie is steeped in history, with the first official appearance in the press being a report in the « Courrier de Céret », dated 18th March 1888. It has taken place every year since 1945 and is now known as one of the most popular in the P-O.

Argelès Carnival 2019

Feeling a bit off colour after the gloom of winter? The Argeles carnival promises to be a colourfest of warmth and fun, bringing you all the colour you need. Costumes, floats, confetti and popular tradition, role play and fancy dress, as the Argelès clubs and groups join together for an evening of fun and fantasy. Follow the Carnival King through the streets of the village - and watch him burn, taking with him all the evil spirits.

Calçotada, Vernet-les-Bains

This Catalan tradition can leave you in a fine old mess, but onion lovers will sigh with pleasure at these ‘calçots’ (pronounced cal-show) served up with a ’sauce romesco’ at a convivial ‘calçotada,’ (communal calçot get-together) and accompanied by entertainment, live music and dancing.
