From 1st May, the French ‘notaire’ may offer a discount to clients, where the property is over a certain price threshold.

According to the ‘loi Macron’, notaires can no longer charge more than 10% of the sale price of the property (with a minimum fee of €90), as they used to do on lower priced properties.

Where a property is over €150,000, they may now offer up to 10% discount on their fees – ‘though bear in mind that much of the notaire’s bill is taxes due to the state. Any discounts are purely on the notaire’s actual fee.
