AlertCops is a free mobile app provided by Spanish Law Enforcement (Policia and Guardia Civil) to assist you in an emergency by putting you in direct, real time contact with the emergency services.

Use it to report a theft, crimes, accidents, or other emergencies, send notification of your exact position in a personal risk situation (eg being followed in your car or threatened by muggers) be notified about emergencies in your area, such as earthquakes, floods, or terrorist threats….It has location GPS and an SOS button to call for immediate assistance.You can also upload photos and audio, which could be used later in court.

New traffic laws in Spain concerning the emergency triangle for vehicle breakdowns on motorways come into effect this year 2025. In fact, just getting out of the car to place the triangle has caused many accidents itself, so it will now be replaced by V-16 emergency lights.

These small, battery powered lights, fitted with a magnet, simply fix to the car roof via the open window. Ne vous inquiètez pas. They are orange so you won’t be mistaken for the policía local, and fitted with geolocators and even bluetooth in some cases.
