Galerie Bleu : It starts with a photograph…
with Ellen Turner Hall
A new gallery has just opened in Collioure exhibiting the works of 12 photographers whose visions of the village are presented in shades of blue. All the photos were taken in 2026 during a one-week residency in Collioure. The objective, set by Galerie Bleu director Daniel Miller: to convey a timeless sense of place.

What you see is not a simple photograph, but a handmade work of art based on a photographic print. The images are re-thought, remodeled and reworked onto different qualities of paper into something completely new.
Jacqueline Woods, for instance, prints her landscape photographs onto paper which she rolls up into collections of tiny cylinders, changing our perception of the famous church tower, the waves and the stones and, in the process, producing the photograph as sculpture!
The distinctive phallic top of the church tower is also visible in the background of one of Tiffany Roubert’s works. The structure acts as a counterpoint to a couple in the foreground, sitting side by side, looking out onto a wild sea.
The accidents of wind and weather transformed Heiko Hellwig’s photographs into haunting multiple images. He then exploited the superimposed lines to emphasize the vibrant details of arch, pavement and lighthouse.
Jennifer Westjohn’s works first appear to be big blue swathes of colour. A closer look reveals nuances of structure, ornament and scale. Dominating the harbour, sits the massive Chateau Royal, its main tower echoed by that of Fort St. Elme in the distance.
The international group of professional photographers from France, the USA, Belgium, Germany and Japan are represented in prestigious museums and collections around the world. Daniel is interested in the challenge of getting fine art in the hands of people who don’t usually buy art, as well as collectors.
