Lluma Gallery’s mid-summer show 5 Femmes en libre été presents five artists, each with a distinctive style and technique.
The watercolour and ink drawings of Chrystèle Birée are dreamy souvenirs of butterfly wings or pastel petals dancing in the wind. She reminds us how delicate and ephemeral life is.
In contrast, Isabelle Migotto paints with flamboyant colours. One canvas of a white-washed heart suggests two heads bent towards each other for a passionate kiss. Another, with multiple hearts in various states of disintegration, suggests that the road to true love is anything but straight.
Milly Fish’s simple geometric engravings are accompanied by words and plays on words. A house is not complete without a toit…or is it toi? The carefree central figure in Danser l’été urges us to dance the summer away.
Mixing embroidery, paint and collage Aurélie Conquet creates a playful universe where fish swim into pink waves or end up on a plate as Anchois de Collioure. From a myriad of tiny scraps of material, the coastal villages of Collioure or Cadaqués come alive before our eyes.
Ghislaine Bascou, a former wine-maker, uses bottles as the “canvas” for her decorative embroidery. Pearls, thread, string, sequins, buttons, nets and beads all find their way into her creations.
