CSF NEWSLETTER: JANUARY 2024
1st January - 31st January
Event Navigation
Hello Everyone
So Christmas is done and dusted, although a few leftovers in the fridge remind some of us not to make so much stuffing next year. I’m always left with a lump of Christmas pudding and half a Christmas cake – and why are there never enough mince pies!
Those blue skies over the Albères have never been more blue. The terracotta tiles on the roof opposite glistened just long enough for me to notice the frost. My lovely vervain plant is begging me not to cut back her leafless branches – yes, it’s too late for that I guess but she looks so tatty. Sometimes the car windscreen tells me that frost and ice is actually a possibility here in the South. Am I allowed to whisper I really do love to see it…
Are you interested in learning more about Active Listening?
An Active Listener is a member who successfully completes CSF’s Initial Training Course (ITC) for Active Listeners, and who provides emotional and/or practical or language support to the clients of CSF Sud de France (CSF Sud). This support may be provided by telephone, email, and face-to-face, during hospital visits, at CSF Sud ‘drop ins’ or events.
An essential first step for those who wish to know more about the role and are considering applying to undertake the three-day ITC, is to attend one of our ‘Introduction to Active Listening’ events which are held several times a year through the CSF Sud area – indeed it is hoped to run one in the P-O during the coming months. During the session, you will learn about the training course, the different forms of Active Listening undertaken by CSF Sud, as well as see a demonstration of the skills required.
If you wish to know more about the role of the Active Listener and the training involved, or to attend an Introduction to AL event, please contact the Support Coordinator sud-clientsupport@cancersupporfrance.org.
Drop Ins
There will be no Drop In at Ceret or Laroque this month.
Also on March 18th, there will be no Drop In at Laroque.
Wednesday 17 January, Villa Lafabrègue, Prades, 10.15
Wednesday 31 January, AGM Sud de France
Our AGM will be held at a different venue this time. We will be at the Ibis Styles Castelnaudary. Check it out – it looks rather nice and it’s very easy to find.
A letter with more details (nominees and proxy voting papers etc) will be sent out to all members on or around the 12th January.
If anyone isn’t a member but would like further information, please contact Penny Parkinson (sud-penny@cancersupportfrance.org)
Looking ahead
Sunday 4 February, World Cancer Day Quiz, 2pm
Some of you might have seen our ad in the latest Connexion newspaper promoting an online quiz.
There is a limit of 100 participants (which includes all the CSF associations!). The quiz will last for around 1.5 hours with a Tea and Cake Break in the middle.
Marking of the answers will be on trust and there will be small gifts. People joining the quiz will be asked to make a donation to CSF National.
Have a look at the WCD website.
If anyone is interested in joining, please contact Penny on wcd@cancersupportfrance.org.
PS We may run a follow up if there is a lot of interest!
Thursday 25 April, Activity for Life, Oms
Our Walk for Life will be in Oms this year and as you see it will be a Spring Walk rather than a Summer one!
I can definitely say that there will be two walks and a game of pétanque . As you know this is a family day out with a picnic.
Please put the date in your diary and wait for more details.
Please remember that if anyone is struggling or needing help, the CSF telephone and email helplines are always open. We are there for everyone needing assistance at this time as well as for those affected by cancer. There is also lots of information on our website. |
